Longwood Gardens<\/p><\/div>\n

This weekend, Longwood Gardens (Route 1, Kennett Square, 610-388-1000, www.longwoodgardens.org<\/a>) starts its new year with one of its annual special events \u2013 \u201cWinter Wonder.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWinter Wonder,\u201d which runs from January 20-March 24, celebrates the beauty of winter. It\u2019s all about outdoor spacious, indoor oasis, and the power of story.<\/p>\n

Outside, visitors can find a sense of peace and tranquility as they walk past textural grasses, seed heads and the dramatic silhouettes of trees that stretch up into the sky.<\/p>\n

Inside, they can bask in a world of warmth that features an overhead garden of hanging baskets adorned with such vibrant beauties as jasmine, cape-primrose, and lipstick-plant.<\/p>\n

Visitors will be able to enjoy a paradise of flowers and foliage, bursting with color — all in a beautiful indoor winter wonderland with a tropical twist.<\/p>\n

Inside Longwood’s Conservatory, visitors can check out nearly 300 blooming orchids on display in the site\u2019s Orchid House. There will also be rare blue poppies blooming in March but for only about 10 to 15 days.<\/p>\n

Another popular attraction this year is Longwood Gardens\u2019 \u201cScience Saturdays\u201d series.<\/p>\n

The first installment is scheduled for January 20.<\/p>\n

The series will kick off with \u201cScience Series: Innovative Greenhouses, Extraordinary Plants\u201d with Associate Director of Floriculture Production Diana Shull.<\/p>\n

Longwood custom grows a staggering 1,300 (and counting) types of plants each year for seasonal indoor displays and outdoor gardens \u2026 and each type has its own needs. While Longwood\u2019s team utilizes its horticulture expertise to grow this diverse palette of plants, its innovative greenhouses further the capabilities to grow them precisely and efficiently, all while attending to each plant type\u2019s individual needs.<\/p>\n

Shull will present in-depth look at how Longwood\u2019s state-of-the-art greenhouses enable it to customize growing conditions for an extremely diverse set of plants. Shull explores how greenhouses accommodate a variety of plant materials, growing methods, and environments — and how the team uses this technology to grow more and different plants for display.<\/p>\n

Participants will be able to learn how Longwood\u2019s greenhouses are much more than buildings \u2013 that they are opportunities to improve the efficiency and volume of the site\u2019s production, introduce more sustainable technologies and practices, and elevate the quality of display.<\/p>\n

Other topics for Science Saturday events are \u201cPlant Exploration in Tanzania\u201d on February 10, \u201cLongwood Research, Down to a Science\u201d on February 24, \u201cManaging Our Natural Lands\u201d on March 9 and \u201cSeed Science\u201d on April 20.<\/p>\n

\u201cFloral Feature: Camellia House\u201d will be held from January 19-28.<\/p>\n

Visitors can enjoy vibrant, fun displays with Longwood\u2019s new Floral Features. Crafted by its floral design team, these colorful creations are on view for just a limited time and set in varying locations throughout the Gardens.<\/p>\n

Guests can experience a textured sculpture of foliage and branches in the East Conservatory\u2019s Camellia House. Feathery Asparagus ferns and gnarled branches form a delicate husk, revealing lush pink florals of\u00a0Cymbidium\u00a0orchids, amaryllis, roses, camellias, and tulips within — all complementing the neighboring blooming camellias.<\/p>\n

The gardens are open from Wednesdays through Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Friday, March 31. Hours change in the spring.<\/p>\n

As always, admission by \u201cTimed Ticket\u201d — tickets issued for specific dates and times. Timed ticketing limits the number of people in the Gardens at any given time and allows guests to enjoy minimal lines and a better viewing experience.<\/p>\n

You may enter the Gardens up to 30 minutes prior and 30 minutes after your designated time. Make every effort to arrive at your designated reservation time. Earlier or later arrivals may not be accommodated.<\/p>\n

Admission to Longwood Gardens is $25 for adults, $22 for seniors (ages 62 and older) and college students, $18 for active military and veterans and $13 for youth (ages 5-18).<\/p>\n

Chaddsford Winery (Route 1, Chadds Ford, 610-388-6221, www.chaddsford.com<\/a>) is presenting \u201cReserve Tastings – Festive Faves\u201d on select Saturdays and Sundays in January.<\/p>\n

Guests will join the CFW Crew for an intimate and educational 60-minute experience in the Barrel Room.\u00a0The trained staff will guide them through a pre-selected tasting of five widely diverse and award-winning wines from across our portfolio. The selections will be paired alongside seasonal local cheeses and other accoutrements to enhance your tasting experience.<\/p>\n

The staff will also discuss topics such as grape growing conditions at our partner vineyards and the onsite winemaking process from production to aging and bottling.<\/p>\n

The \u201cWine, Cheese & Honey Pairings at Penns Woods\u201d at Penns Wood Winery (124 Beaver Valley Road, Chadds Ford, 610-459-0808, http:\/\/www.pennswoodswinery.com<\/a>) provide a nice way for visitors to enjoy a winter weekend day.<\/p>\n

Penns Woods Winery is joining forces with local cheese makers and local honey artisans to present exclusive pairings of wine, cheese and honey. The tastings will feature four premium Penns Woods wines, each paired with various cheeses and honey from local farms.<\/p>\n

The mouth-watering tastings will be held every weekend in January from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sundays.<\/p>\n

Tickets cost $40 per person and reservations are required.<\/p>\n

Harvest Ridge Winery<\/p><\/div>\n

Harvest Ridge Winery (1140 Newark Road, Toughkenamon, www.harvestridgewinery.com<\/a>) will present a \u201cChocolate & Wine Pairing\u201d on January 21.<\/p>\n

Local artisans Double Spiral Chocolate have become the first handcrafted bean-to-bar chocolate maker in Delaware. The craft chocolatiers are located in the community of The Ardens.<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s event will pair different Double Spiral Chocolate dark chocolates with a crafted selection of Harvest Ridge wines.<\/p>\n

Tickets for the event, which starts at 1 p.m., are $25.<\/p>\n

Now through January 21, the Auto Dealers Association of Greater Philadelphia is presenting the 2024 Philadelphia Auto Show at the Pennsylvania Convention Center (12th and Arch streets, Philadelphia, www.phillyautoshow.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The automotive industry\u2019s latest creations are on display at the Pennsylvania Convention Center during the annual\u00a0Philadelphia Auto Show, running for nine days. Showgoers get an up-close look at hundreds of classic, luxury and exotic cars \u2014 and even have the opportunity to climb behind the wheel of some.<\/p>\n

Spanning more than a half-million square feet, the 2024 Philadelphia Auto Show display floor will include several new features as well as time-honored fan favorites. This year marks the 122nd edition of the event.<\/p>\n

Guests will again be invited to check out the latest and greatest developments from some of today\u2019s leading vehicle manufacturers in \u201cThe Showroom,\u201d which will be in Halls A, B and C of the PA Convention Center.<\/p>\n

Custom Alley will showcase a wide array of tricked-out rides, bikes and the latest in after-market excitement.<\/p>\n

Ticket prices range from $11-$17.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re into hot cars, then cold days probably won\u2019t slow you down and keep you from your date with all things motorsports this weekend.<\/p>\n

The 38th Annual Motorsports Race Car & Trade Show<\/p><\/div>\n

The 38th Annual Motorsports Race Car & Trade Show will be held on January 19 and 20 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center (100 Station Road, Oaks, 609-888-3618, www.aarn.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The huge annual event will feature close to 300,000 square feet of exhibition space devoted to auto racing, street rods and everything else related to motorsports. There will be hundreds of exhibits, a full schedule of informative seminars and personal appearances by a wide array of racing legends.<\/p>\n

There will be more than 200 motorsports vehicles of all types on exhibit. Several area speedways will have displays at the show and offer a great opportunity for fans to meet some of their standout performers and pick up a schedule of motorsports events for the 2020 season.<\/p>\n

More than 600 exhibit booths featuring 400-plus racing dealers, hardcore manufacturers of racing equipment and more will be part of the huge show, which is billed as the biggest and best of its type in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.<\/p>\n

Show attendees will have the opportunity to meet and collect autographs from well-known figures in motorsports, including a pair of legends \u2013 Billy Pauch and Bruce Lawson.<\/p>\n

Another annual fan favorite at the annual show is the Ms. Motorsports Pageant, which is scheduled for Friday evening at 8 p.m. As an added attraction, there will be autograph sessions with many of the contestants from recent years.<\/p>\n

Show hours are 2-9 p.m. on January 20 and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on January 21. Tickets are $15.<\/p>\n

The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center (Station Avenue, Oaks, 800-677-4677, www.phillyexpocenter.com<\/a>) will host the East Coast\u00a0Reptile\u00a0Super Expo featuring hundreds of live snakes and\u00a0reptiles on January 20.<\/p>\n

Many people think snakes and lizards are interesting creatures and maybe even fun pets to own. If you fall into this category, you should check out the show on Saturday. A wide array of\u00a0reptiles will be on display as part of the popular exhibition, which is an annual event that is closing in on its silver anniversary.<\/p>\n

One of the show\u2019s main attractions is a sales exhibit area featuring many vendors with live\u00a0reptiles, amphibians and arachnids as well as food items, supplies, books, cages, and related accessories.<\/p>\n

Some of the featured vendors are AZO\u00a0Reptiles, Rose\u2019s\u00a0Reptiles, Darin\u2019s Toybox, Blake\u2019s Exotic\u00a0Reptiles, Dower\u00a0Reptiles & Rodents,\u00a0Reptile\u00a0Kingdom, DHA Pythons, Gecko Haven,\u00a0Hunger\u00a0Reptiles, Jungle Emporium,\u00a0Delaware Turtle,\u00a0Just Lizards, Outback\u00a0Reptiles,\u00a0RKZ\u00a0Rodents. Monstar\u00a0Reptiles,\u00a0Turtle to Turtle,\u00a0and Delaware Valley Herpetarium.<\/p>\n

The East Coast\u00a0Reptile\u00a0Super Expo, which is always a well-attended event, will run from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. this Saturday. Tickets are $10 with children (under five) admitted free.<\/p>\n

On January 21, the Expo Center will also be hosting The Philly Vintage Flea<\/p>\n

Philly\u2019s biggest men\u2019s and women\u2019s vintage clothing flea is coming back to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center for its 11th edition.<\/p>\n

At the event, Philadelphia\u2019s top vintage vendors will be offering men\u2019s and women\u2019s vintage clothing. There will be more\u00a0 than 50 vendors and a free trade pit.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $20 for the event, which will run from noon-5 p.m.<\/p>\n

The Philadelphia Comic-Con, which is scheduled to run from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on January 15 at the Clarion Hotel Conference Center (76 Industrial Highway,\u00a0Essington, 856-217-5737, www.philadelphiacomic-con.com<\/a>), features comic books, trading cards and other collectibles — both modern and vintage.<\/p>\n

The event, which has an admission fee of $4, also features a number of special autograph guests.<\/p>\n

The popular collectibles event, which is the area\u2019s longest running comic convention, will host dealers from all over the Northeast with sales booths featuring Gold & Silver Age comics, action figures, non-sport cards (including Topps \u201cJourney to Star Wars: The Force Awakens\u201d).<\/p>\n

Also featured will be Japanese Manga, gaming cards such as Pokemon and Magic the Gathering, original artwork and all the latest issues of today\u2019s popular comic book series.<\/p>\n

The roster of top-flight vendors includes veteran dealers and relative newcomers. As an added attraction, there will be hourly door prizes beginning at 11 a.m. with $100 in show cash to be given away.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re looking for a fun family activity \u2013 an indoor activity unaffected by the weather — Linvilla Orchards (137 West Knowlton Road, Media, 610-876-7116, www.linvilla.com<\/a>) has something just for you — the\u00a0miniature golf course \u201cFore! the Planet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Linvilla Orchard\u2019s\u00a0\u201cFore! The Planet\u201d\u00a0is a highly interactive and playful museum exhibit created by the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. This exhibition pairs important environmental issues with the fun of miniature golf.<\/p>\n

It features nine unique educational holes — explore butterfly metamorphosis, a tropical rain forest, evolution, dinosaur extinction, food chains, and more. It\u2019s perfect for kids of all ages. The entire family will enjoy playing miniature golf while learning about our environment \u2013 every step of the way.<\/p>\n

The mini-course is open daily from 9 a.m. -5 p.m. through April 1. Tickets are $8.<\/p>\n

Sesame Place (100 Sesame Road, Langhorne, www.sesameplace.com<\/a>) may be closed for park rides and activities but there\u2019s still furry fun to be had.<\/p>\n

This weekend\u2019s special event will be \u201cAbby\u2019s Magical Magician Ball Dine,\u201d the second of five themed dining experiences throughout January and February.<\/p>\n

\u201cCaptain Cookie\u2019s Pirate Feast<\/p>\n

\u201cAbby\u2019s Magical Magician Ball Dine,\u201d which will be held on January 21, features a delicious buffet meal plus magician, Sam Sandler, performing his spellbinding tricks and spectacular illusions right before your eyes.<\/p>\n

Other upcoming special dining events are Ernie’s Birthday Bash Dine (January 27 and 28), Elmo’s Rockin’ Birthday Dine (February 3 and 4) and My Fuzzy Valentine Dine (February 10 and 11).<\/p>\n

Tickets for the dining events are $39.99 (ages 10 and older) and $19.99 for children (ages 2-9). Advanced dining reservation is required.<\/p>\n

A well-attended Bucks County attraction is the \u201cHoliday Light Show\u201d at\u00a0Shady Brook Farm (931 Stony Hill Road, Yardley, www.shadybrookfarm.com<\/a>)<\/p>\n

The farm features a three–million-light\u00a0Holiday Light Show\u00a0with\u00a0\u201cDashin\u2019 Through the \u2026 Lights,\u201d a family-friendly two-mile drive-through on Thursday and Friday nights.<\/p>\n

The main display allows visitors to drive or (weather permitting) ride in wagons past post-sundown displays including illuminated tunnels.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0\u201cHoliday Light Show\u201d is open now through January 27.<\/p>\n

Timed tickets, which start at $30, are required.<\/p>\n

How would you like to get rid of your Christmas tree in a sustainable and extremely adorable way?<\/p>\n

A great way is to \u201cgift\u201d it to a goat.<\/p>\n

The Philly Goat Project\u2019s annual Christmas Tree-Cycle festival\/fundraiser (www.phillygoatproject.org<\/a>) returns with a special event where you can donate your tree to local goats to enjoy. The family-friendly event runs from noon-2 p.m.<\/p>\n

On January 20, the event will be held at Laurel Hill West Cemetery (225 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd).<\/p>\n

The festival features free s’mores, hot cocoa and all the goat cuddles you want. There is a suggested donation of $20 per Christmas tree which helps support community programs. And you don’t need a tree to join in the fun.<\/p>\n

Founded more than 50 years ago, Choo Choo Barn \u2014 Traintown U.S.A. (Route 741 East, 226 Gap Rd, Strasburg, 717-687-7911, www.choochoobarn.com<\/a>) presents a 1,700-square-foot train layout featuring over 150 hand-built animated figures and vehicles and 22 operating trains. The majority of trains that are running in the display are \u201cO Gauge\u201d trains but there are also some HO Gauge trains as well as one N Gauge train.<\/p>\n

Several of the original pieces and animations are still on the display today, including the ski slope, ski lodge and ice skaters, Dutch Haven, the Willows, the two-lane moving highway (in front of Dutch Haven), the farm with the tobacco barn, the Strasburg Fire House, the church beside Dutch Haven and a few other houses.<\/p>\n

The layout features a special Christmas display now through mid-January. The homes and businesses along the tracks have been decked out with holiday trim. And there are 55 hidden Santas \u2014 one for each year the site has been open \u2014 located around the display for visitors to find.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children (ages 3 and under) at Choo Choo Barn \u2014 Traintown U.S.A.<\/p>\n

A popular annual Philly holiday tradition can be found at the Rothman Orthopaedics Institute Ice Rink at Dilworth Park (1 South 15th Street, Philadelphia, http:\/\/ccdparks.org\/dilworth-park<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Back in November, some of Philadelphia\u2019s favorite winter traditions return to Dilworth Park. Visitors of all ages can enjoy a dramatic seasonal transformation as fountains are replaced by the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute Ice Rink and reindeer topiaries take up winter residence on the Greenfield Lawn.<\/p>\n

In addition, a full lineup of free entertainment is featured, including the Deck the Hall Light Show, the Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market and Rothman Orthopaedic Institute Cabin.<\/p>\n

Dilworth Park\u2019s winter season began in November with the opening of the Wintergarden on the Greenfield Lawn and the Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink and Cabin.<\/p>\n

The Rothman Institute Ice Rink at Dilworth Park is an unparalleled entertainment experience on Philadelphia\u2019s center stage in a wonderfully urban and unique setting. Open seven days a week, the rink offers wintery fun for all ages, with a full slate of programs.<\/p>\n

Winter has arrived and the Blue Cross\u00a0RiverRink\u00a0(Delaware Avenue at Walnut Street, Philadelphia, 215-925-RINK, www.riverrink.com<\/a>) has come back to life.<\/p>\n

Unlike most of the suburban ice rinks,\u00a0RiverRink\u00a0features public skating. Ice skating is the only use of the ice. This winter,\u00a0RiverRink\u00a0takes the ice-skating experience on the Delaware River waterfront to another level by once again transforming the annual rink into a bona fide winter wonderland.<\/p>\n

For 29\u00a0seasons, Winterfest has been Philadelphia’s favorite Winter tradition on the Delaware River Waterfront, inviting\u00a0visitors for a chance to indulge in flights of fancy under\u00a0thousands of sparkling lights in a\u00a0winter wonderland with spectacular views of the Delaware River. Cozy up in comforting warming cabins,\u00a0firepit stations, boardwalk rides and games for the young and young-at-heart, delicious food and hot beverages, the signature holiday tree, and, of course, ice skating on our NHL-sized rink. Winterfest is a\u00a0top destination for anyone looking to rekindle family traditions.<\/p>\n

The Winterfest site is free to enter and open to the public. Amenities such as\u00a0ice skating\u00a0and\u00a0cabin and firepit\u00a0experiences\u00a0can be reserved in advance. Winterfest is open seven days a week including holidays through March.<\/p>\n

There are also a lot of ongoing non-holiday events in the area this weekend.<\/p>\n

Grim\u00a0Philly\u2019s \u201cDark Philly History Tour\u201d (www.grimphilly.com<\/a>) will be held every evening throughout the winter.<\/p>\n

Participants can walk with tour guides from the grounds of America’s first White House, Congress, and Liberty Bell to homes and sites of Hamilton, Washington, Franklin, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, and more than 10 other Founding-Fathers. The surprising dirt of espionage, murder, sexual license and blackmail highlight the secrets of 1776 with a ghost story or two along the way. This tour is highly researched. And your guide is a historian.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $35.<\/p>\n

Ghost\u00a0Tour\u00a0of Philadelphia (215-413-1997, www.ghosttour.com<\/a>),\u00a0Ghost\u00a0Tour\u00a0of Lancaster (717-687-6687, www.ghosttour.com<\/a>) and\u00a0Ghost\u00a0Tour\u00a0of Strasburg (717-687-6687, www.ghosttour.com<\/a>) operate throughout the winter and offer an eerily entertaining evening of true\u00a0ghost\u00a0stories and real haunted houses.<\/p>\n

The Ghost Tour of Philadelphia, which is based on the book, \u201cGhost Stories of Philadelphia, PA.,\u201d is a candlelight walking\u00a0tour\u00a0along the back streets and secret gardens of Independence Park, Society Hill, and Old City, where\u00a0ghostly spirits, haunted houses, and eerie graveyards abound.<\/p>\n

Participants can discover the ghost lore of America\u2019s most historic and most haunted city with stories from the founding of William Penn\u2019s colony to present-day hauntings.<\/p>\n

The activity is open year-round \u2013 weekends, December-February; every night, March-November. Tickets are $24.<\/p>\n

The Ghost Tour of Lancaster and the Ghost Tour of Strasburg are based on the book, \u201cGhost Stories of Lancaster, PA.\u201d<\/p>\n

Participants in the\u00a0Ghost\u00a0Tour\u00a0of Lancaster explore the long-forgotten mysteries of one of America\u2019s oldest cities, with haunting tales of otherworldly vigils, fatal curses, and star-crossed lovers. The\u00a0tour\u00a0provides the opportunity to experience 300 years of haunted history from the Red Rose City\u2019s thorny past. Tickets are $20.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Ghost\u00a0Tour\u00a0of Strasburg is a candlelight walking\u00a0tour\u00a0of the quaint and historic town of Strasburg in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Visitors will experience an entertaining evening with a costumed\u00a0tour\u00a0guide spinning tales of haunted mansions, eerie graveyards, and spirits that roam the night \u2026 in a town lost in time. Tickets are $20.<\/p>\n

\u201cTreeTrails Adventures Trevose\u201d (301 West Bristol Pike, Trevose, treetrails.com\/trevose-pa<\/a>) is an adventure park\u00a0full of fun challenges for outdoor adventurers of all ages.<\/p>\n

Participants can experience the rush of TreeTrails Adventures\u00a0as they swing through the trees of the new adventure park.\u00a0They will be able to discover the\u00a0excitement of climbing and zip lining above the forest floor\u00a0with family, friends, co-workers, or teammates.<\/p>\n

The park, which is based at Phoenix Sport Club in Bucks County, offers two ways to experience climbing \u2013 TreeTrails Adventure Park and KidTrails Park. Young explorers can enjoy miniaturized courses in the adjacent KidTrails Park.<\/p>\n

Wonderspaces\u00a0at the Fashion District (27 North 11th Street, Philadelphia, philadelphia.wonderspaces.com<\/a>) is an experiential, interactive arts venue.<\/p>\n

Building on the success of annual pop-up shows in San Diego, and its first permanent location in Scottsdale, Arizona,\u00a0Wonderspaces\u00a0opened a 24,000 square foot gallery space in Philly two years ago.<\/p>\n

Wonderspaces\u00a0features 14 art installations that all play with the idea of perspective.\u00a0 The artwork ranges from award-winning virtual reality short film about a dinner party-turned-alien abduction, to a room where visitors digitally paint the walls with the movement of their bodies.<\/p>\n
