{"id":43653,"date":"2024-11-21T09:57:44","date_gmt":"2024-11-21T14:57:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=43653"},"modified":"2024-11-21T20:49:37","modified_gmt":"2024-11-22T01:49:37","slug":"county-extends-burn-ban-through-dec-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=43653","title":{"rendered":"County extends burn ban through Dec. 26"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-20077\" src=\"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/ChesterCountyLogo-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"303\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While it actually rained Wednesday night and into this morning &#8212; the continued drought conditions have led the Chester County Commissioners to extend the county burn ban through Dec. 26.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The county&#8217;s resolution notes that the burn ban be extended for 30 days from November 26, 2024, due to the serious threat to life and property the fire potential poses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Specifically, \u201cEmergency measures must continue to reduce the severity of this danger in order to protect the health, safety, welfare and property of the citizens of Chester County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chester County Department of Emergency Services Director Bill Messerschmidt said, \u201cWhile we have recently had some rain, the small amounts do not move the needle. Small brush, grass and branches, which are what catch fire most easily, dry out very quickly. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe need a combination of sustained rain and high moisture content in the air. If the relative humidity does not stay high then small fuels \u2013 kindling \u2013 will quickly dry up and present high fire potential again. We implore all residents and businesses to honor and adhere to this open burn ban, especially when it comes to the seasonal burning of leaves and yard waste.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ban extends to most forms of outdoor burning. To recap the original ban passed in October: &#8220;The open burn ban includes open burning of any combustible material outdoors in either a burn barrel (screened or unscreened), fire ring, fire pit, or on the ground. \u00a0This includes the burning of garbage, leaves, grass, twigs, litter, paper, and vegetation from land which has been cleared.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Use of charcoal grills is sill permitted.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While it actually rained Wednesday night and into this morning &#8212; the continued drought conditions have led the Chester County Commissioners to extend the county burn ban through Dec. 26.
