More importantly, when Egyptians, Lebanese or Greeks have plans to party, they\u2019re going to party<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">If it\u2019s Greek food and music you\u2019re looking for, you\u2019re definitely in luck.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Grecian Food Festival at St. Sophia Church Grecian Festival (900 South Trooper Road, Jeffersonville, 610-650-8960, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saintsophiachurch.org\/\">www.saintsophiachurch.org<\/a>) is running now through June 1.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The 2025 Greek Festival at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (808 North Broom Street, Wilmington, 302-654-4446, <a id=\"OWA75b00846-9b13-d08d-b6ae-1b97191fd657\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.holytrinitywilmington.org\/\">www.holytrinitywilmington.org<\/a>) opens on June 2 and runs through June 7.<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The list of main dish items at St. Sophia\u2019s festival has a wide variety of meat and vegetable items. Chicken Oreganato is Grecian-style chicken roasted with a mixture of lemon, oil and oregano, while souvlaki\u00a0is grilled pork tenderloin marinated with special herbs.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Gyros are pita sandwiches featuring a spice-infused ground beef-and-lamb mixture that is grilled, sliced fresh and served with tzatziki (cucumber and yogurt sauce), tomatoes, onions and olives.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Pastitsio is a macaroni dish with braised ground lamb and beef that is topped with b\u00e9chamel sauce and baked. A similar entr\u00e9e is mousaka, which\u00a0features layers of eggplant, potato, ground lamb and beef, which is then baked and topped with a light b\u00e9chamel sauce.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Saganaki\u00a0is a dish with seared vlahotiri cheese that is flamed with brandy and lemon and served fresh.\u00a0Greek Salad, which is always a favorite, includes lettuce, feta cheese, tomatoes, Greek olives, oregano, salt, onion, cucumbers tossed in a light olive oil dressing.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Other selections that can either be a main meal or a side dish are tyropita, which is a Greek-style cheese pie in a crispy phyllo crust; spanakopita, which is a tyropita that has spinach added; and Dolmades, which are rice and meat wrapped in grape leaves.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The menu at St. Sophia\u2019s also includes a fried calamari dish with fresh lemon, and patates tiganitres, which are deep-fried potatoes that have been lightly seasoned with Greek herbs and spices and topped with feta cheese.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">For dessert, it\u2019s impossible to go wrong with any of the traditional Greek pastries. The most well-known Greek dessert is baklava, which is made with multiple layers of thin buttered phyllo dough cooked with walnuts, spices and honey syrup. Kataifi\u00a0features shredded wheat with chopped nuts and honey syrup.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Loukoumades, the Greek version of doughnuts, are deep-fried and dipped in honey with a dash of cinnamon.\u00a0Floyeres\u00a0is a baked dessert prepared with thin layers of buttered pastry sheets, almonds, spices, and honey syrup. Galaktoboureko\u00a0is a custard dessert baked between carefully placed pastry sheets and covered in syrup.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Karidopita\u00a0is a moist walnut cake with spices and syrup. Kok, which\u00a0is the Greek version of Boston cream pie, is a chocolate-covered cake that is filled with custard. Diples\u00a0are crunchy treats featuring crisp folds of thin rolled pastry dough that are deep fried and topped with syrup, cinnamon and nuts.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Greek cuisine also includes a variety of mouth-watering cookies including melomakarona\u00a0(oval cookie dipped in honey and rolled in nuts), kourabiedes\u00a0(butter cookie served with confectioner\u2019s sugar), paximadia\u00a0(zwieback-type cookie that is baked then sliced and toasted in the oven), koulourakia\u00a0(butter cookie that is twisted, basted with egg yolk and baked.)<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Greek American groups from the Delaware Valley will play popular Greek songs and standards and theer will be performances of traditional Greek folk dances. The festival also features a taverna \u2013 a bistro-style site for dancing and drinking.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Other attractions are Greek grocery stores and sales booths with items such as Greek music, icons, custom-made jewelry, leather goods and fabric. There will also be a variety of children\u2019s activities.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Greek Festival at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church runs through June 8 and is free and open to the public.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The list of main dish items at Holy Trinity has a wide variety of meat and vegetable items. The festival also features an outdoor taverna, Greek grocery stores, and sales booths with items such as Greek music, icons, custom-made jewelry, leather goods and fabric. There will also be a variety of children\u2019s activities.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will also be a Greek Festival in Philly at St. George Cathedral (256 South Eighth Street, Philadelphia, <a href=\"http:\/\/saintgeorgecathedral.org\/\">saintgeorgecathedral.org<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The festival is running now through June 1 \u201311 a.m.-11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and noon-6 p.m. on Sunday.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will be traditional Greek food dishes, live music, vendors and church tours at the free festival.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This is the time of the year when there are ethnic food festivals almost every weekend.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This weekend\u2019s schedule has two other interesting options &#8212; St. Maron\u2019s Lebanese and Middle East Cultural Festival (10th\u00a0and Ellsworth streets, Philadelphia, <a id=\"OWA54cf4327-ebc3-ad8a-5c13-44c2c8632eb7\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.saintmaron.org\/\">http:\/\/www.saintmaron.org<\/a>) and St. Mary\u00a0Coptic\u00a0Church of Delaware\u2019s Egyptian Festival (644 Otts Chapel Rd, Newark, Delaware, <a id=\"OWA17e4421c-260a-8c96-633f-b25ac947ba0e\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/stmaryde.org\/\">stmaryde.org<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-20597 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/2025-Festival-Flyer-1-350x190.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"190\" \/>St. Maron\u2019s Lebanese Festival, which runs now through June 1, offers a wide array of tantalizing Middle Eastern dishes such as kibbe (bulghur, minced onions and finely ground lean beef or lamb), baba ghanoush\u00a0(eggplant\u00a0mixed with onions, tomatoes, <a id=\"OWA82b0bb98-6af2-6ba2-1b90-fc677fe5a0bd\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Olive oil\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Olive_oil\">olive oil<\/a>\u00a0and various seasonings) and tabbouleh\u00a0(<a id=\"OWA53d525d8-3f24-bc52-8974-aba0501bf0b1\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Vegetarian cuisine\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vegetarian_cuisine\">vegetarian<\/a>\u00a0dish with bulgur, tomatoes, finely chopped <a id=\"OWA98960c74-fb29-b9ab-f817-af7a05beedf3\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Parsley\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parsley\">parsley<\/a>, <a id=\"OWAf20b2562-856d-ccb2-362d-0f58541a8a8a\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Mentha\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mentha\">mint<\/a>, and <a id=\"OWA8fc6d0ea-a241-faaf-ca54-c1282af84d9f\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Scallion\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scallion\">onion<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will also be\u00a0hummus\u00a0(food\u00a0dip\u00a0made from cooked, mashed\u00a0chickpeas\u00a0blended with\u00a0tahini,\u00a0olive oil, lemon juice and garlic) and freshly cooked shish kabobs and chicken kabobs. A kabob is a Middle Eastern\u00a0dish featuring pieces of meat, fish, onions and peppers grilled on a <a id=\"OWAc30296f3-3bfb-c045-7e1a-ecd63e8e3d3b\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Skewer\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Skewer\">skewer<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Other attractions at St. Maron\u2019s free festival will be folkloric exhibits, arts and crafts booths, hookahs, children\u2019s games, a performance by St. Maron\u2019s Dabke Troop, cash prize raffles and live music by Meesha Dance and Said Abi Akl &amp; Band.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">St. Mary\u00a0Coptic\u00a0Church of Delaware\u00a0is holding its popular annual Egyptian Festival on Saturday and Sunday.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The\u00a0Coptic\u00a0Church was established in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ by St. Mark the Evangelist in the city of Alexandria around 43 A.D. The church adheres to the Nicenen Creed.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Fewer changes have taken place in the\u00a0Coptic\u00a0Church than in any other church in both ritual and doctrine aspects. Additionally, the succession of the\u00a0Coptic\u00a0Patriarchs, Bishops, Priests and Deacons has been continuous.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This weekend\u2019s festival will feature such Egyptian delicacies as kofta kabob, falafel, lamb shish kabob, kobaeba, shepherd\u2019s pie, moussaka and gyro sandwich.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will also be sweet treats such as babousa, baklava and konafa with nuts.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Also featured at the festival will be an Egyptian gift shop, Christian items and kids\u2019 games.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Hours are 11 a.m.-7 p.m. both days.\u00a0Admission is free.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-20598\" src=\"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/LadybugLogo2022Splatter_300ppi_2680px_R1-350x131.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"131\" \/>It\u2019s time once again for the Ladybug\u00a0Music Festival\u00a0(Market Street, Wilmington, Delaware, <a id=\"OWA7dd9111b-503f-7249-b6d8-c60f5462f1ef\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Protected by Outlook: https:\/\/theladybugfestival.com\/. Click or tap to follow the link.\" href=\"https:\/\/theladybugfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/theladybugfestival.com<\/a>) \u2013 a free festival held on Market Street in downtown Wilmington.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The popular annual event will be staged on May 30 from 5-10 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The 2025 festival will feature more than 30 different female-fronted bands, duos, and singer-songwriters performing simultaneously at seven venues around the 500 block of Market Street.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Main Stage at the Queen will feature Margaret Glaspy, Martha Wash, KOSER, AE the Cool and Wendy Logan Band.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Merchant Bar will present Meghan Cary, Rebecca Berlin, Jess Meilman and Roberta Faceplant.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Crown at the Queen will host Belle Shea, Kelsey Blackstone, Mollie Edsel and Jennifer Silva.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Knights Bar at the Queen will have Jessica Woodlee, Miss Mandy &amp; The Somethings, Kim McClay and Joy and the Wildfire.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Quoin Rooftop will feature Jenni Schick, Lucy Isabel, Lauren Wanamaker, Christine Bile and Corin Diaz.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The lineup for Huxley &amp; Hiro is Gillian Krystal, Rachel May, Christine Irizarry and the Foolhardy, Marguerite Breane and Strays &amp; Misfits.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Olympia Room at the Queen will present Eljuri, Chelsea Reed and The Fairweather Band, The Wild Hymns and Lily Enos.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The\u00a0Ladybug\u00a0Music Festival is a celebration of women in music taking place annually in both Wilmington and Milford, Delaware. Started in 2012 by <a id=\"OWA42fe11a1-aa88-b1d8-2050-1dd1ef643b38\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Protected by Outlook: https:\/\/gablemusicventures.com\/. Click or tap to follow the link.\" href=\"https:\/\/gablemusicventures.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gable Music Ventures<\/a>, the idea was to offer an alternative to the Firefly Music Festival that was focused on local independent artists, and free for the community to attend.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Summer Sounds Concert Series at Spruce Street Harbor Park (301 South Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia, <a id=\"OWA4ec28096-683f-2267-0800-05419e79ed60\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.delawareriverwaterfront.com\/places\/spruce-street-harbor-park\">www.delawareriverwaterfront.com\/places\/spruce-street-harbor-park<\/a>)\u00a0 is being held on select Saturdays throughout the summer.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Doors open at 6 p.m., and showtime is 7 p.m. All ages are welcome. The concerts are free and open to the public.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On May 31, the concert will feature rock veterans Rubblebucket with Miss Cantaloupe as the opening act.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cCandlelight Under the Stars with Joe Grasso\u201d will be held May 31 from 5-10 p.m. at the Candlelight Theatre parking lot (2208 Millers Road, Wilmington, Delaware, <a href=\"http:\/\/candlelighttheatredelaware.showare.com\/\">candlelighttheatredelaware.showare.com<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Start time for the event is 5 p.m. with the opening act scheduled to go on at 5:30 p.m. followed by Joe Grasso\u00a0&amp; the Ramblers from 7-10 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will be a Beer Garden with food and drinks available for purchase. The event is \u201cBYOC\u201d (Bring your own chair).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets are $25 with proceeds to benefit the Candlelight Theater. Each ticket purchased includes a raffle ticket for two tickets to Candlelight Comedy Club, or two Tickets to a Main Stage Show.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">You still have a few days left to catch one of the area\u2019s top festival events &#8212; the Devon Horse Show (Lancaster Avenue, Devon, 610-688-2554, <a id=\"OWAf4b0c77f-2bd4-8d7e-5344-b7dc16621056\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.devonhorseshow.org\/\">www.devonhorseshow.org<\/a>), which is one of the oldest events of any kind in the state.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\n<div id=\"attachment_20599\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20599\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-20599\" src=\"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/devon-horse-show-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-20599\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Devon Horse Show<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Devon Horse Show is and always has been special.<\/p><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">More than just another annual equestrian event, it is a family event that spans generations and traditionally marks the start of summer. It is a place where attendees go as much to see and be seen as to watch horses compete &#8212; a sporting event and a tradition-based social event.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">No-one on earth right now is old enough to have attended every edition of the Devon Horse Show.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The 2025 show, which is running now through June 2, is the 129th Annual Devon Horse Show and Country Fair.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Devon Horse Show began in 1896 as a one-day show with 28 classes. By 1914, it had grown immensely and had become the largest outdoor horse show in the country &#8212; a distinction it still holds.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">In 1919, it was decided that a \u201cCountry Fair\u201d should be held in conjunction with the horse show and that the event should benefit Bryn Mawr Hospital.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">In 2010, the Devon\u00a0Horse Show became just the fourth American horse show to be honored with the designation as a USEF Heritage Competition.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">More than 3,000 horses are entered in the Devon Horse Show in over 30 divisions and more than 200 classes with prize money totaling over a quarter of a million dollars. The equestrian competition reaches its peak the final few days with the Devon Grand Prix and the Idle Dice Open Jumper Stake.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Country Fair offers concessions featuring lemon sticks, cotton candy and buckets of fudge. Other main attractions at the fair are the garden caf\u00e9, sales booths featuring antiques, toys, hand-crafted items, Devon Horse Show souvenirs and over 30 other shops with jewelry, art, clothes and equestrian-related items.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Another popular family attraction is the Midway with its huge Ferris wheel, old-time carousel and wide array of amusement rides and games &#8212; plus kid-favorite goodies such as popcorn, cotton candy and funnel cake.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">A special attraction will be appearances by the Budweiser Clydesdales. A great American tradition celebrating their 91st Anniversary, the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales are scheduled to appear again here at Devon on May 31.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for children (under 12) and seniors (over 65).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On June 1, Hope Lodge (553 South Bethlehem Pike, Fort Washington, 215-343-0965, <a id=\"OWA66ead860-64f2-692b-c82a-a8a8325efcbb\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ushistory.org\/hope\/\">http:\/\/www.ushistory.org\/hope\/<\/a>) will be hosting the \u201cAmbler Symphony Concert on the Lawn.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The annual concert will start at 5 p.m.\u00a0 on the front lawn of the historic mansion.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Under the musical direction of conductor Jack Moore, it promises to be an enjoyable evening of music for all ages.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Visitors are invited to bring the family, chairs and a picnic. Craft beers from Round Guys brewery will be available for purchase to people aged 21 and over with valid ID.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Admissions is $5 for adults with children aged 12 and under admitted free.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Hope Lodge was built between 1743 and 1748 by Samuel Morris, a prosperous Quaker entrepreneur. Morris acted as a farmer, shipowner, miller, iron master, shop owner, and owner of the mill now known as Mather Mill.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Hope Lodge is an excellent example of early Georgian architecture, and it is possible that Edmund Woolley, architect of Independence Hall, offered advice in building. Samuel Morris owned the estate until his death in 1770.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On June 1, the Upper Main Line Memorial Association will sponsor the 157th Annual Memorial Parade (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.malvernmemorialparade.com\/\">www.malvernmemorialparade.com<\/a>) in the Borough of Malvern. The parade, which is held every year on the Sunday after Memorial Day, will start at 1:30 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Founded in June 1869, the parade is recognized as the oldest continuously held Memorial Parade in America.
