The following night, the band will be the headline act at MilkBoy Philly (1100 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, 215- 925-6455, <a id=\"OWAae83e884-c571-d1d6-6def-0664c6e531d3\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.milkboyphilly.com\/\">www.milkboyphilly.com<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe really love the city of Philadelphia,\u201d said Undlin, during a phone interview Wednesday night from her home in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. \u201cEarly on, we\u2019d come and play D.I.Y. house shows in Philly.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWith Philly, I\u2019ve always been blown away by how many porches there are there. People really interface \u2013 talk to you from their porch. It\u2019s great.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Humbird\u2019s last LP (long player) was released on April 12, 2024.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI write a lot,\u201d said Undlin. \u201cMost of the songs on \u2018Right On\u2019 were written a few months before we recorded them.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI write all the time. Songwriting can happen in a lot of ways for me \u2013 however the idea hits me. It could start with a melody, a story idea, a hook \u2013 whatever happens.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe made \u2018Right On\u2019 in Eau Claire. Because we were recording to tape, we only did a few takes for each song. When we record digitally, we will re-track things.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe also recorded \u2018Astrovan\u2019 in Eau Claire. It was a weird experiment.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI was experiencing writer\u2019s block. A friend suggested that I keep the songs short and sweet and that I not think too much. I don\u2019t think he meant one-minute love songs. But that\u2019s what I did, and people seem to like them.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Undlin grew up steeped in church choirs and traditional Irish ensembles, which eventually led to conducting extensive folklore and musical research around the world as a Watson Fellow. That work inspired years of DIY touring around North America.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI grew up playing music,\u201d said Undlin, who is of Norwegian descent. \u201cMy mother was a Lutheran pastor, and I sang in church. I also grew up listening to Irish music.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI was writing songs when I was young. I used to bang away on our piano when I was really young, so my parents got me piano lessons. But I never pursued keyboards. My main instrument is my voice \u2013 and guitar.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI listened to a lot of traditional Irish music. I liked it because of its storytelling. I also listened a lot to 90s female confessional songwriters like Michelle Branch and Liz Phair.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Undlin continues to expand and experiment as a writer and bandleader in a way that is fluid with each season and oddly suited for this particular moment.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Following the surprise success of the self-released debut album \u201cPharmakon\u201d\u00a0and the pensive reflections of 2021\u2019s \u201cStill Life,\u201d\u00a0\u201cRight On\u201d\u00a0is the next iteration in her process of witnessing the world in all its complexity and responding with candid consideration.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Humbird is more than a band name for her solo work.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI always called it a project,\u201d said Undlin. \u201cIt can be me or a band. It\u2019s been a rock trio the last few years. The lineup now features Pat Keen on bass and Nate LeBron on drums.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cOur live set is a smattering from all my albums. Songs from \u2018Right On\u2019 make up half the set and the rest are favorites from the other albums.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Since October 2011, Undlin has had to share her name with Apple\u2019s \u201cSiri.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Siri is a digital assistant included within\u00a0Apple\u00a0devices\u2019\u00a0operating system. Siri was named after the shortened version of the Norwegian name Sigrid by co-creator, Dag Kittlaus. It also means \u201cSpeech Interpretation and Recognition Interface.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">If an Apple phone is on when someone asks Undlin a question, there are frequently two replies to \u201cHey Siri\u201d \u2013 one from Undlin and one from the phone.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI have to deal with (Apple\u2019s) Siri about a hundred times a day,\u201d said Undlin. \u201cI\u2019ve gotten used to it.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Video link for Humbird \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/flXokhP9c_I\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/flXokhP9c_I<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The show on June 10 in Eagleview, which has Eliza Edens as the opening act, will start at 7 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The family-friendly show is free.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The\u00a0Eagleview\u00a0Town Center will host its\u00a0Summer Concert Series\u00a0every Tuesday now through August 26.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This series, which is in its 24th year, features a\u00a0variety of performances, including Rockafilly on June 17 and Roberta Faceplant on June 24.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On August 8, the twin bill features a national act \u2013 Cracker \u2013 and a local favorite &#8212; Cliff Hillis.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The show on June 11 at MilkBoy Philly, which has Eliza Edens as the opening act, will start at 8 p.m.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets are $21.06.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Other upcoming shows at MilkBoy Philly are Tone Bandit &amp; Friends on June 5, Young Widows on June 6, The Tisburys on June 7, Luke Santana &amp; Teamarrr on June 8, John Wiese and Lana Del Rabies on June 9 and Fer De Lance + Wild Beyond on June 10.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On June 8, the Colonial Theater (227 Bridge Street, Phoenixville, <a href=\"http:\/\/thecolonialtheatre.com\/events\">thecolonialtheatre.com\/events<\/a>) will host \u201cThe Theatre Organ Society of the Delaware Valley Presents Master of the Mighty Wurlitzer: Ben Forsthoffer Commands the Colonial.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Kennett Flash (102 Sycamore Alley, Kennett Square, 484-732-8295, <a id=\"OWA49ca5fa3-b367-607d-a0c0-3bf81d74df4e\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kennettflash.org\/\">http:\/\/www.kennettflash.org<\/a>) is hosting Seth Walker on June 5, The Honey Badgers on June 7 and Open Mic Night with Mike McDevitt on June 8.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Uptown!
