Since then, she has built a very large fanbase \u2013 both here in the states and internationally.<\/p><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On July 17, Longley will headline a show at Tellus 360 (24 East King Street, Lancaster, 717-393-1660, <a id=\"OWA62b2134f-276c-88d5-5477-4f9127a591a0\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tellus360.com\/\">www.tellus360.com<\/a>), On July 18, she will co-headline a bill with Lucy Kaplansky at the Bryn Mawr Twilight Series at the Bryn Mawr Gazebo (9 South Bryn Mawr Avenue, Bryn Mawr, <a id=\"OWA03315337-ae6c-4b3c-97f6-129a1db8b3e7\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.brynmawrtwilightconcerts.com\/\">www.brynmawrtwilightconcerts.com<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">At both concerts, Longley will treat her fans to live versions of songs from her recently released album, \u201cNew Life.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Longley\u00a0graduated from Downingtown West High and then earned a degree in music at Berklee College of Music in Boston. After a short stay in New York, she returned to Boston and then moved to Nashville in 2011.<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Prior to her move to Music City, Longley established a pattern of steadily collecting accolades.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">She was the Grand Prize winner of the Rocky Mountain Folk Festival\u2019s Songwriter Showcase, the 2009 co-winner of the Mountain Stage New Song Contest, a finalist in the 2009 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition and the Grand Prize winner in the International Acoustic Music Awards.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Longley has taken home top prizes at some of the most prestigious songwriting competitions in the country, including the BMI John Lennon Songwriting Scholarship Competition, the International Acoustic Music Awards and the Rocky Mountain Folk Fest Songwriting Competition.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Longley released three albums prior to relocating to Nashville \u2013 \u201cHot Loose Wire\u201d (2010), \u201cSomewhere in the Middle\u201d (2009) and \u201cTake You Down\u201d (2007).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">She has released four \u201cpost-move\u201d albums \u2013 \u201cLiz Longley\u201d (2015), \u201cWeightless\u201d (2016), \u201cFuneral for My Past\u201d (2020) and \u201cNew Life\u201d (2025).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cMy new album, \u2018New Life,\u2019 came out in March,\u201d said Longley, during a phone interview Tuesday. \u201cI recorded it here in Nashville.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cPaul Moak produced it, and we recorded it at his studio, The Smoakstack.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Moak is a five-time Grammy-nominated, ASCAP award winning, producer, engineer, mixer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist based in Nashville.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">With this multi-faceted approach, Moak has amassed credits on more than 800 albums, spanning a wide variety of genres.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This impressive roster of artists includes Heart, Dolly Parton, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, Imelda May, Hilary Duff, Avi Kaplan, Marc Broussard, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Sarah Brightman, Third Day, Jars of Clay \u2013 and Liz Longley.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cPaul is an incredible musician,\u201d said Longley. \u201cThis is the fifth project I\u2019ve done with him.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Longley\u2019s career has been boosted for years by her Patreon society.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Patreon\u00a0is a monetization platform that provides business tools for content creators to run a\u00a0subscription service\u00a0and sell digital products. It helps artists and other creators earn a recurring income by providing rewards and perks to its subscribers.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cFor me, Patreon built an incredibly supportive community,\u201d said Longley. \u201cI just did a concert for them last week.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI do an unreleased song every month and I also post a cover song every month.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cNew Life\u201d is a great title for Longley\u2019s new disc \u2013 fueled by her new lifestyle.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Longley is a young mother.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Her daughter McKenna is closing in on her third birthday.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Longley also is pregnant with a son who is due to arrive in October.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThere are a lot of meanings to \u2018New Life,\u2019\u201d said Longley. \u201cThere is the new life that I brought into the world \u2013 the way she changed my life.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWhen I had her, it meant a new life for me too. It changed the way that I see the world. It definitely affected what I write about.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI like to joke that I developed my career writing songs about my failed love relationships. Now, I\u2019m writing about McKenna and my new life. A lot of the songs are about this.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe album\u2019s vibes are positivity and gratitude \u2013 and being present. There are a few relationship songs \u2013 but not the failed love relationships. I wrote a song for McKenna called \u2018Can\u2019t Get Enough.\u2019<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe album is kind of a mix. There are a few songs from years ago and others I wrote right before we made the album.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cMy Patreon community knows my entire catalogue and they\u2019ve suggested a few songs from years ago.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cAn important thing that I\u2019ve learned being a songwriter is how to write from a place of gratitude. I try to be existential \u2013 and to be grateful for the life that I have.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">It seems fitting that the final two tracks on Longley\u2019s 11-song album are \u201cNew Life\u201d and \u201cCan\u2019t Get Enough.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cIt\u2019s always enjoyable to get back to Pennsylvania,\u201d said\u00a0Longley. \u201cI play there several times a year. It\u2019s good to get back to my roots.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cAlso, I\u2019m looking forward to playing with Lucy Kaplansky. This Woodstock-tinged psychedelia also taps into Southern Rock, Folk and British Invasion.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Slambovians have fared really well in the U.K. with positive reviews for shows and strong record sales.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">They have even caught the attention of British rock legends such as the Waterboys\u2019 Anthony Thistlethwaite and Ian Anderson, the founder and leader of Jethro Tull.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Anderson said this about the\u00a0Slambovian\u00a0Circus of Dreams \u2013 \u201cA breath of fresh air in a sometimes stagnant world &#8212; especially as a live act &#8212; with varied eclectic influences and great musicianship.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Plus moustaches, hats and stage presence gild their interesting and thought-provoking lyrics for the curious adult mind.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Slambovians\u2019 show at the Sellersville Theater this Sunday has similar function as a sports team\u2019s pre-season session.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe\u2019re getting ready for Falcon Ridge,\u201d said Lloyd, said Lloyd, during a phone interview Wednesday afternoon from upstate New York where she and Longo reside.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The\u00a0Falcon Ridge Folk Festival\u00a0is an\u00a0annual American\u00a0folk-oriented music and dance festival currently held at the Fairgrounds in Goshen, Connecticut<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The first festival was a two-day event in 1988.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The festival is held during the first full weekend of August, currently from Friday to Sunday. Festival attendance in past years has approached as much as 15,000 throughout the long weekend.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cSellersville is a prelude to Falcon Ridge,\u201d said Lloyd. \u201cIt gets us ready for our festival season.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Slambovian Circus of Dreams\u2019 2025 festival slate includes visits to Music on the River (East Haddam, Connecticut), Porcupine Mountain Music Festival (Ontonagon, Michigan), Sawyer County Fairgrounds (Hayward Wisconsoin), and Colorscape Chenago Arts Festival (Norwich, New York).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">When autumn arrives, the festival season ends but the Slambovians stay on the road and visit Pennsylvania in October for a show at the Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe took off January to record,\u201d said Longo. \u201cI\u2019m always writing. I\u2019m much more prolific writer than recorder.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Lloyd said, \u201cWe completely rewired. Now, we\u2019re picking songs for the next album. Some are already done.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">According to Longo, \u201cThe new album is started. But it\u2019s hard to get the band in the studio because everybody is so far away.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cMatthew lives in Connecticut. Bob lives wherever Legoland is (Goshen, New York) and RJ lives in Massachusetts.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cSharkey lives in the same town as us \u2013 Cold Spring (NY). It\u2019s a town where Don McLean lived. He wrote \u2018American Pie\u2019 right up the street. Also, we\u2019re just a half mile from Pete Seeger\u2019s home. Cold Spring is a vortex of creativity.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Longo is a Philly native who went to St. John Neumann High which back then was called Bishop Neumann High. Both the school and Longo\u2019s childhood home are located in South Philadelphia.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Slambovians have been described as, \u201cExploring the depths of Americana one trippy tune at a time, influences and elements of Dylan, Bowie, The Band, Incredible String Band, Syd Barrett and The Waterboys flavor the musical mix.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Slambovian Circus has released more than a dozen studio albums. Right in the middle was \u201cThe Circus Does Dylan\u201d, an album released in June 2010\u00a0featuring 12 Dylan tracks recorded live between 2005 and 2009.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Seeger and Dylan \u2013 especially in his early days\u2014were known for singing political songs.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Wisely, the Slambovian Circus is not railing against the current political situation in America.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cDon\u2019t pick a side \u2013 pick a future\u00a0together,\u201d said Longo.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Lloyd said, \u201cWe\u2019re hiding out from politics completely.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Slambovian Circus of Dreams is closing in on the number 20 for albums released. The band\u2019s latest album, \u201cA Very Unusual Head,\u201d was released three years ago on the band\u2019s own label.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI\u2019m a pretty stormy unpredictable person,\u201d said Longo. \u201cSo, we called our label Storm King.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe were D.I.Y. for the first four of five albums. Then, we partnered with Sony. But that didn\u2019t work out and then COVID happened.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe started our label with the \u2018A Very Unusual Head\u2019 album as the first release. Since then, everything in our catalog has been re-released.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The band has another feature that dates back more than a decade-and-a-half.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe\u2019ve been doing summer shows in the U.K. since 2008,\u201d said Lloyd. \u201cWe\u2019ve gone over every year except 2020 and 2021 because of COVID.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">In 2023, the\u00a0Slambovian\u00a0Circus of Dreams played the Fairport Convention\u2019s Copredy Convention\u00a0in Banbury and was named the \u201cfans\u2019 favorites.\u201d They also played the Wickham Festival which had the Waterboys as headliners.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cOur first time to play in the U.K. was the Rhythm Festival,\u201d said Lloyd. \u201cIt was a classic rock festival with acts like the Animals and the Zombies. Jim Driver, who is involved with the Glastonbury Music Festival, asked us to play at the festival.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Last year, the\u00a0Slambovian Circus headed back across the pond for a series of shows, including a pair of festivals \u2014 Devizes Arts Festival in Devizes and First Light Festival in Lowestoft.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The big news in 2024 was the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the band\u2019s debut album, \u201cA Good Thief Tips His Hat.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The album was initially released in 1999 and then re-released in 2021 after the band got control of its catalogue.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe album was never released in the U.K. and is now being released by a British label,\u201d said Longo. \u201cWe\u2019ve been playing songs from that album. Learning to play songs from a 25-year-old album was like learning new stuff.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Longo has been extremely busy at his home along the Hudson.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI\u2019m working on three musicals and four new albums,\u201d said Longo. \u201cI\u2019ve been writing a lot.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe musicals are moving along \u2013 starting to happen. The whole skeleton is coming together. I\u2019ve been reading books about scriptwriting. It\u2019s really about articulation.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe albums are written and arranged. Matthew and I have been laying down tracks for one of them.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Longo always has multiple irons in the fire.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI\u2019ve also been working on a new book \u2013 a lyrics book with comments,\u201d said Longo. \u201cWriting was quick but the pictures took a long time \u2013 sorting through 30 years in a sea of photographs.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cA Very Unusual Head,\u201d which\u00a0is the band\u2019s sixth studio album, was released January 21, 2022, on their new label, Storm King Records.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cA Very Unusual Head\u201d was recorded over four years in five studios and two countries. The album is a step away from the\u00a0guitar-based Americana vibe heard on their previous albums.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cA Very Unusual Head\u201d is a real\u00a0Slambovian\u00a0tribal project with contributions from many friends and a few \u201cspecial guests\u201d such as Dar Williams,\u00a0Anthony Thistlethwaite (The Waterboys),\u00a0Kolson Pickard (Tall Heights, Pico Romanesque), drummer\u00a0Felipe Torres\u00a0(protege of Carmine Appice and sideman for Davey Jones), drummer\u00a0Matt Abourezk\u00a0(Thin White Rope) and Tristan Tadin\u00a0(keyboards).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Canadian engineer\u00a0Dio Tadin\u00a0(Tristan\u2019s father) recorded the bulk of the album on a former reindeer farm near Peterborough, Ontario and at Big Blue in Cornwall, New York. Tadin\u2019s resume includes work at Daniel Lanois\u2019 studio in Hamilton, Ontario.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Inspired by the Surrealists and early British Psychedelia and the paths they pioneered, the songs on the album deal with topics ranging from the pseudo-scientific to the pseudo-religious realms and other forms of hob-nobbery for fun and profit.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The diverse album has a song about Steven Hawking (\u201cForce of Nature\u201d), the planets (\u201cPluto\u201d) and an inspirational song about the importance of bees in the ecosystem (\u201cBeez (I Know Where the Beez Have Gone\u201d).\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">As always, the\u00a0Slambovians\u2019 songs feature great instrumentals accompanied by lyrics that are intelligent, socially aware, witty and mindful. Longo is a modern-day troubadour bringing a message to the people of 2025.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The new album displays many of the band\u2019s influences \u2014 Beatles, Bowie, Incredible String Band, Syd Barrett, Brahms and The Waterboys\u2026along with a good measure of Woodstock-era psychedelia.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe\u2019ll play some songs from that album in Sellersville,\u201d said Lloyd. \u201cWe have five new songs including \u2018Temple of Yu\u2019 and \u2018Up Above My Head.\u2019<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe\u2019ll play three brand new songs that no-one has ever heard.
