{"id":45107,"date":"2026-01-09T10:02:26","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T15:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=45107"},"modified":"2026-01-09T10:03:35","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T15:03:35","slug":"what-to-do-a-perfect-weekend-for-inside-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=45107","title":{"rendered":"What To Do:  A perfect weekend for inside events"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"elementToProof\"><strong>By Denny Dyroff,<\/strong> <em>Entertainment Editor, The Times<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-21121\" src=\"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/TrainShowGrapic2-300x300-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/>When looking for January events to enjoy each weekend, many area residents prefer to look inside \u2013 and there is much to be found there this weekend.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center (Station Avenue, Oaks, <a id=\"OWA27f82813-a968-e74e-d256-951fcd3754cc\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.phillyexpocenter.com\/\">www.phillyexpocenter.com<\/a>) will be the site of three very different events this weekend \u2013 events focusing on model trains, fishing and sports memorabilia.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will be a lot of model trains and a lot of toys on display and for sale when\u00a0Greenberg\u2019s Train &amp; Toy Show\u00a0visits the area for a two-day stop at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The show, which is scheduled for January 10 and 11 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both days, will feature a number of operating train displays, including Independent Hi-Railers &#8211; 24 \u00d7 48 &#8211; O Gauge Layout, South Eastern Pennsylvania Garden Railway Society &#8211; 32 \u00d7 36 -O Gauge Layout, Strasburg Model Railroad &#8211; 20 \u00d7 120 &#8211; HO Scale Layout, Keystone N Trak &#8211; 24 \u00d7 20 &#8211; N Scale Layout, Allegheny Western Lines Model Railroad Club &#8211; 34 \u00d7 34 &#8211; HO Scale Layout,<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Dave Brent\u2019s Model Railroad &#8211; 35 \u00d7 5 &#8211; HO Scale Layout, South Jersey S Gaugers &#8211; 16 \u00d7 30 &#8211; S Scale Layout\u00a0and North Penn O Gaugers &#8211; 50 \u00d7 54 &#8211; O Gauge Layout.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This weekend\u2019s show will also offer free clinics on a wide variety of topics, including track work, using accessories and using a digital command control. There will be a large number of dealers with toys, trains, accessories and hobby publications. Other features include hourly door prizes.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets for adults are $11 for Saturday and $10 for Sunday. Children (12 and under) are admitted free.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21122 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/FishingLogo-333x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"300\" \/>The Expo Center is hosting the \u201cPhilly\u00a0Fishing\u00a0Show\u201d on January 9, 10 and 11.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The event will feature free seminars &#8212; saltwater, freshwater and fly \u2013 and a wide array of vendor booths.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Special attractions include the \u201cHawg Trough\u201d, a 5000-gallon aquarium full of local freshwater\u00a0gamefish, a trout\u00a0fishing\u00a0pond, and a fly-fishing\u00a0pond.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will be professional anglers and lure makers sharing the stage on the tank giving seminars and demonstrating different lures.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Hours are noon-7 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Admission is $12 for adults, $6 for children (6-12) and free for children (five and under).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Expo Center is also hosting the \u201cThe Collector Connection Live Sports Cards and Memorabilia Auction.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The twice-a-year \u201cLive Only\u201d auction will be held on January 10 starting at 10 a.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This is an old-fashioned auction in which you have to be there to bid.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The promoters will have cards and memorabilia from the 1930\u2019s to today. Some of the highlights include an amazing selection of complete sets with 1961 Topps, 1962 Topps, 1964 \u2013 1966 Topps, and a bunch more sets from 1971 on up.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Also featured will be great singles both graded (mainly PSA and SGC) and raw, autographs galore, bulk lots, choice lots, vintage to modern lots.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">More than 400 lots will be sold \u2014 and only to the people in the room.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\n<div id=\"attachment_21123\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21123\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21123\" src=\"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/longwood-agrd-350x175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"175\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21123\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Longwood Gardens<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Longwood Gardens (Route 1, Kennett Square, <a id=\"OWA53bd2d98-642f-6c8a-71c9-d8adf55faef4\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.longwoodgardens.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.longwoodgardens.org<\/a>) is celebrating the holidays with the annual favorite &#8212; \u201cA Longwood Gardens Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The festive holiday display at Longwood Gardens, which is running now through January 11, features more than 500,000 spectacular lights, lavish decorations, holiday music and colorful displays featuring thousands of brilliant poinsettias, brightly decorated trees and fragrant flowers &#8212; all inside the heated Conservatory.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">A new attraction this year is the \u201cTaste of Christmas\u201d at The Fountain Room in the Gardens. The Fountain Room recently opened as part of \u201cLongwood Reimagined.\u201d In addition to tasty food, it also offers a premier view of the Main Fountain Garden.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The restaurant has 240 seats and features new dining options, new seasonal menus, and a private dining room, plus a bar and lounge.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will be stations featuring gourmet entrees, a wide array of sweet treats, non-alcoholic beverages and hot chocolate. Special tickets are required.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets for \u201cTaste of Christmas\u201d at The Fountain Room, which include gardens admission, are $178.74 for adults (ages 21+), $117.34 (ages 13-20); and $74.94 (ages 5-12); members $136.74 (21+), $94.34 (ages 13-20), $51.94 (ages 5-12). Kids age 4 or younger are free.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The highlight of \u201cLongwood Reimagined\u201d is the West Conservatory. The 32,000-square-foot glasshouse was designed by Weiss\/Manfredi while the gardens and water features were put together by Reed Hilderbrand.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The colorful annual event, which appeals to the entire family, also has a lot of outdoor attractions such as fountain shows and nighttime light displays.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Longwood\u2019s Christmas celebration also includes a wide array of seasonal music &#8212; holiday concerts, organ sing-alongs and carillon performances.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">When darkness arrives at Longwood, a night-blooming garden of more than a half-million lights strung on close to 100 trees with approximately 40 miles of wire comes to life. A carillon with 62 cast bells plays holiday music every half hour during daylight hours. Longwood\u2019s Open Air Theatre fountains dance to holiday music each half hour &#8212; temperature permitting.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">As always, admission by \u201cTimed Ticket\u201d &#8212; tickets issued for specific dates and times. Timed ticketing limits the number of people in the Gardens at any given time and allows guests to enjoy minimal lines and a better viewing experience.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Visitors to \u201cA Longwood Gardens Christmas\u201d can also check out Longwood\u2019s Garden Railway &#8212; a whimsical display set into motion with G-scale model trains.
