{"id":45111,"date":"2026-01-10T10:26:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T15:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=45111"},"modified":"2026-01-10T10:27:28","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T15:27:28","slug":"on-stage-extra-delaware-legends-kid-davis-the-bullets-home-for-show-at-118-north","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=45111","title":{"rendered":"On Stage (Extra) Delaware legends Kid Davis &amp; The\u00a0Bullets home for show at 118 North"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"elementToProof\"><strong>By Denny Dyroff,<\/strong> <em>Entertainment Editor, The Times<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\n<div id=\"attachment_21126\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21126\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21126\" src=\"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/davis-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21126\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kid Davis &amp; The\u00a0Bullets<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Kid Davis &amp; The\u00a0Bullets\u00a0have Delaware all through their DNA.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The band, which will headline a show at 118 North on January 10, got its start in Delaware County and eventually migrated to the state of Delaware.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">After more than four decades of making music in this area, Kid Davis &amp; The\u00a0Bullets are a Delaware-based Americana and roots-rock outfit known for electrifying live performances, vintage-leaning rockabilly swagger, and soulful, story-driven songwriting.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Recent inductees into the\u00a0Delaware Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame, the band has built a loyal following through relentless touring and a sound that blends barroom energy with thoughtful songwriting.<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Their upcoming album, \u201cAmsterdam,\u201d follows a string of celebrated regional releases and marks their boldest artistic statement yet.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The show at 118 North will be an \u201cAlbum Release Show\u201d for \u201cAmsterdam.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cOur first gig ever was at Hurley\u2019s Tavern in Chichester in 1982,\u201d said Davis, during a phone interview Tuesday night from his home in Hockessin, Delaware.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cEver since then, we performed mostly in Newark, Wilmington, Philly and Delaware County.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI grew up in Prospect Park and graduated from Interboro High School. I moved to Delaware when I was 23.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe Delaware music scene was pretty good then but it\u2019s not very good right now. It is picking up with venues like the Logan House.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Kid Davis &amp; The\u00a0Bullets\u00a0will be playing the Logan House on February 26. The band has also maintained a strong presence in Cgester County and will play the Brickette Lounge in West Chester two nights later (February 28) and again on March 28.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWhen people ask us what kind of music we play, it used to be that rockabilly was the easy answer,\u201d said Davis.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe don\u2019t play that anymore. We play American music \u2013 rock music \u2013 blues-oriented rock music.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Kid Davis &amp; The\u00a0Bullets\u00a0released their electrifying new single, \u201cBoxcar,\u201d on December 12, 2025. A gritty, locomotive-driven anthem, the track serves as the first taste of \u201cAmsterdam.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The single is a raw, blues-infused rocker that captures the relentless momentum of a train at full speed. Anchored by a hypnotic groove and heavy guitar riffs, the song channels the spirit of classic Americana while venturing into darker, more unhinged territory.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">According to Davis, \u201cThe inspiration for\u00a0\u2018Boxcar,\u2019\u00a0believe it or not, comes from an old interview with Charlie Manson, where he said, \u2018I\u2019m a boxcar, a jug of wine, a straight razor if you get too close.\u2019 The song is about dread and all kinds of trials and tribulations of life&#8230; stuff that can derail you or mess up your life.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The single sets the stage for\u00a0\u201cAmsterdam\u201d \u2013 a city for which Davis has fond, smoky memories.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The album is the band\u2019s most ambitious project to date. Produced by\u00a0James Everhart (Low Cut Connie, Cosmic Guilt)\u00a0and recorded at\u00a0Hi5 Studios\u00a0in Philadelphia with engineer and co-producer, Josh Friedman, the album straddles classic roots rock, rockabilly soul, and expansive Americana.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">It marks a sonic evolution for the group, pushing beyond their roots into a sound that is \u201cworld-weary but not cynical, reflective but not resigned.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cIt\u2019s been a long time,\u201d said Davis. \u201cWe\u2019ve had a lot of different lineups over the years.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cAmsterdam\u201d was recorded with a lineup that featured Davis (guitar and vocals), Bobby Bloomingdale (standup bass) Pat Kane (guitar) and Paul Ramsey (drums). Unfortunately, that lineup has been altered.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cBobby Bloomingdale, who also played in the Sin City Band, had been with me since the start of the Bullets,\u201d said Davis.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cHe was back with the Bullets for 15 years until he died in August of lung cancer. He was my musical partner\u2014and my best friend.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWith the Bullets, we did at least 10 gigs a month \u2013 sometimes more. We also played some shows in Florida.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cBobby had a place in Big Pine Key. I\u2019d go down for a few weeks in the winter with our drummer Paul Ramsey and we\u2019d play a few shows there.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The current bass player for Kid Davis &amp; The\u00a0Bullets\u00a0is Michael Ball.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe\u2019ve had a steady fan base over the years,\u201d said Davis. \u201cOur last Delaware venue before the Logan House was Gallucio\u2019s in Wilmington. We developed a lot of new regulars there.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cOur current live set is a mixture of originals and covers. I do one or two covers, and our bass player sings on one or two covers. I\u2019ve written a bunch of songs so it\u2019s 95 per cent originals from me.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Video link for Kid Davis &amp; The\u00a0Bullets\u00a0\u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/_t5WpaS3_Ec\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/_t5WpaS3_Ec<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The show at 118 North on January 10, which has Cordelia Blue as the opening act, will start at 8 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets are $20<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will be another show on January 10 in Delaware County featuring a band that has developed a strong local following \u2013 and a strong affection for Delco.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">However, this is not a local band.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Bees Deluxe, which is headlining a show at Jamey\u2019s House of Music (32 South Lansdowne Avenue, Lansdowne,\u00a0www.<a id=\"OWA7bd2b172-35fd-42f0-fc4f-435a28ba95d4\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Protected by Outlook: http:\/\/jameyshouseofmusic.com\/. Click or tap to follow the link.\" href=\"http:\/\/jameyshouseofmusic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">jameyshouseofmusic.com<\/a>) on Saturday, is an Anglo-American band based in Massachusetts.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The group features Carol Band on vocals, Conrad Warre on guitar, Adam Sankowski on bass and Paul Giovine on drums.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe\u2019ve qualified to compete in the 2026 International Blues Challenge in Memphis,\u201d said Warre, during a phone interview Tuesday evening from his home in Boston.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe just won our division at the Granite State Blues Society Blues Challenge 2025. That qualified us to perform at the huge festival in Memphis.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The band also has a new album to celebrate \u2013 \u201cSmash Hits.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe recorded it here in Boston at Tight Squeeze Studio in Hyde Park,\u201d said\u00a0Warre. \u201cJoe Egan was the producer.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cIt\u2019s a mixture of recent songs and some that are still around from four years ago. Half of them are new and there are also a few covers.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cSmash Hits\u201d includes reimagined classics by Fenton Robinson, Otis Rush, Robert Cray and Bobby \u201cBlue\u201d Bland, Bees Deluxe originals that push the envelope of contemporary blue, a poignant tribute to JR Rost with Carol Band\u2019s \u201cHow to Play 96 Tears\u201d and resurrected studio gems like \u201cKidnap\u201d and \u201cKing of Bad Luck.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe album has 40 minutes and 10 songs,\u201d said\u00a0Warre. \u201cWe\u2019re an album band. We\u2019re not interested in putting out singles. This album has a life of its own.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Bees Deluxe was formed by\u00a0Warre, a highly respected British guitar ace.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI grew up in London,\u201d said\u00a0Warre. \u201cI went to a Quaker boarding school that had a lot of U.S. students.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cOne of them gave me a blues compilation album with songs by Johnny Winter, Little Walter and B.B. King.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cIn high school, I was in a band with Paul Kossoff. Paul later went on to be a guitarist with the band Free.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI got a degree in graphic design. When I got out of college, I realized I didn\u2019t want to do graphic design.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Music was a prime alternative.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI\u2019m from London \u2013 from Notting Hill Gate, where the riots were,\u201d said\u00a0Warre. \u201cI wrote Two-Tone music and toured with The English Beat and Joe Jackson. I moved to New York and played a lot at CBGB\u2019s.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI found Carol playing jazz at Ryles Jazz Club in Boston. I got Paul in the band because he knew who Bernard Purdie was. Jim was a friend of his and they played country blues together.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Bees Deluxe has played with Ronnie Earl, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Matt Schofield, Roomful of Blues, Walter Trout and David Maxwell.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The four-piece band celebrates the music of B.B. King, Robert Cray, Albert King, Tinsley Ellis, Freddie King and others.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">So, the band\u2019s background includes blues, rock, English ska, punk rock, jazz and country rock. Its current sound is all of that \u2013 and none of that.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cOur sound is more modern \u2013 more progressive \u2013 more edge,\u201d said Band.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Band is a classically trained pianist who was recruited while playing jazz in Boston\u2019s club scene. She also writes tunes and wows audiences with her blazing harmonica solos.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Warre, who is a British football fan and supporter of the Arsenal Gunners, said, \u201cThe communality is acid rock and blues. So many bands play the same songs the same way every night.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWhen we play, we stretch it out and change it always. Arrangements are made up on the fly.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Bees Deluxe push the limits of the blues, color outside the lines of convention, and do it with impeccable musicality, originality, and a touch of insanity.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThis kind of music appeals to fans of all ages \u2013 if they get to hear it,\u201d said\u00a0Warre. \u201cWe\u2019re at our best when people are dancing.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cOr if they\u2019re hooting and hollering. We adjust our music to the audience. If it\u2019s not a dance crowd, we can stretch it out.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u00a0\u201cWe don\u2019t play a standard blues band repertoire. A lot of blues bands play the same few songs such as \u2018Born Under a Bad Sign,\u2019 \u2018Spoonful,\u2019 and \u2018The Thrill Is Gone.\u2019 It\u2019s really repetitive.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI pick songs that other blues bands don\u2019t \u2013 for example songs by J. B. Lenoir. We like to discover songs that are off the beaten path.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">In 2018, Bees Deluxe released their\u00a0all-original acid-blues album,\u00a0\u201cVoice of Dog,\u201d\u00a0which was produced by Joe Egan on Slapping Cat Records.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The band\u2019s CD,\u00a0\u201cMouthful of Bees,\u201d\u00a0which features an original sound that they call \u201cacid blues,\u201d\u00a0was produced by Egan and\u00a0Warre. It includes three originals and seven classic blues songs re-interpreted by the band.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cOur repertoire has about 60 covers \u2013 most of which are deep cuts \u2014 and 40 originals,\u201d said\u00a0Warre. \u201cYou\u2019re in danger if you play too many originals.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe\u2019ve played Jamey\u2019s before.
