{"id":45238,"date":"2026-02-19T14:17:24","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T19:17:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=45238"},"modified":"2026-02-19T14:18:58","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T19:18:58","slug":"on-stage-music-legends-bring-music-of-cowsill-bros-to-sellersville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=45238","title":{"rendered":"On Stage: Music legends bring music of Cowsill Bros. to Sellersville"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"elementToProof\"><strong>By Denny Dyroff<\/strong>, <em>Entertainment Editor, The Times<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\n<div id=\"attachment_21204\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21204\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21204\" src=\"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/VJ2_PamelaSpringsteen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"249\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21204\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vicki Peterson and John Cowsill<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On February 24, the Sellersville Theater (24 West Temple Avenue, Sellersville, 215-257-5808,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.st94.com\/\">www.st94.com<\/a>) will host a music act that spans pop\/rock generations \u2013 a popular band that shone in the late 1960s and a group that was one of the hitmakers in the 1980s.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On Tuesday night, the duo featuring Vicki Peterson of The Bangles and John Cowsill from the Cowsills will take the stage at the popular Bucks County venue.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The duo released its debut Americana album, \u201cLong After The Fire,\u201d last April. The album is comprised of songs written by John\u2019s late brothers, Barry and Bill Cowsill.<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">It all began with the songs exquisitely written by Cowsill\u2019s brothers at various points in their all-too-short lives. These \u201cRoy Orbison meets The Everly Brothers\u201d tunes are true gems unearthed like treasures from The Cowsill family archives.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThis was a project that we talked about for quite a while,\u201d said Peterson, during a phone interview Wednesday evening from the couple\u2019s home in California\u2019s Santa Monica mountains.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe wanted to do John\u2019s two brothers\u2019 songs and give them a new airing. We wanted to let the world hear them again.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThis was a project to shine the light on the work of these two great artists \u2013 the songs they had written. We probably could do another volume.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Cowsills\u00a0were an American singing group from\u00a0Newport, Rhode Island &#8212; six siblings noted for performing professionally and singing harmonies at an early age, later with their mother.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The band was formed in early 1965 by brothers\u00a0Bill, Bob, and\u00a0Barry\u00a0Cowsill. Their brother\u00a0John\u00a0joined shortly thereafter. Originally Bill and Bob played guitar and Barry played the drums. When John learned to play drums and joined the band, Barry began playing bass. After their initial success, the brothers were joined by their siblings\u00a0Susan\u00a0and Paul along with their mother, Barbara.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Barry Cowsill was born in 1954. He passed away in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrine in 2005.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Bill Cowsill, who established a strong solo career in Canada, was born in 1948. He passed away in 2006 at his home in Calgary, Alberta.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Now, their music is being kept alive by their brother and his wife.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe\u2019ve been focused on promoting this record since it was released last year,\u201d said Cowsill who was a drummer\/vocalist for the Beach Boys\u00a0for more than 23 years and recently has worked as a vocalist for The Smithereens.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe\u2019ve already played seven shows in 2026. We\u2019re going to be going out about every weekend.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cPutting together the show was easy. The focus is on the songs. We bring on history and talk about the origins of the songs. Still, it\u2019s pretty off the cuff. People will be very happy with the set list.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Cowsill has performed live and\/or recorded work with Bob Dylan, Mamas &amp; Papas, Harry Chapin, Maroon 5, Hermans Hermits, Mickey Dolenz (The Monkees), and Chuck Berry. John is also currently one of the lead singers for The Smithereens and the touring drummer for Peter Perrett (The Only Ones).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Peterson has been the lead guitarist for\u00a0the Bangles\u00a0since their founding in 1981. After their first disbandment in 1989, she has returned to the band for all subsequent reunions. In intervening years, she has performed with other artists.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Peterson\u2019s work with The Bangles includes the No. 1 hit \u201cWalk Like An Egyptian\u201d and several other Top 10 songs such as \u201cEternal Flame.\u201d \u00a0Throughout the 90\u2019s, she stayed active appearing on albums with Tom Petty, John Doe, Hootie &amp; The Blowfish, Belinda Carlisle and also toured with The Go-Go\u2019s on their 1994-1995 reunion tour. The Bangles reunited in the 21st century to release four more albums.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">After the Bangles disbanded in 1989, Peterson played with the <a id=\"OWA5754777f-105c-2506-4502-ed613a665a42\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Continental Drifters\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Continental_Drifters\">Continental Drifters<\/a>\u00a0and the Psycho Sisters, in both cases with <a id=\"OWA97de327d-c9e1-7fbf-c408-b7a005f32521\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Susan Cowsill\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Susan_Cowsill\">Susan Cowsill<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Peterson married <a id=\"OWA40c81c8d-7afc-8adf-627a-a97225ba300e\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"John Cowsill\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Cowsill\">John Cowsill<\/a>\u00a0on October 25, 2003.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI met John in the 1970s when the Cowsills were having a resurgence after 10 years of not performing,\u201d said Peterson. \u201cWe were playing the same little clubs in L.A.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe knew each other as friends and then started dating in 2001. John and I got together in life \u2013 and romantically &#8212; and got married in 2003.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">In 2017, Peterson and Cowsill joined <a id=\"OWAd6107536-bafb-a962-96bf-7150f5be73b2\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Bill Mumy\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bill_Mumy\">Bill Mumy<\/a>\u00a0as the band Action Skulls and released an album\u00a0 titled\u00a0\u201cAngels Hear.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe first time we played together in a band was with Action Skulls,\u201d said Cowsill. \u201cI was also touring with the Beach Boys.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cNow, I\u2019m turning 70. I have 20 years left. It\u2019s a milestone. I have more time off now.
