Three things guaranteed to make you look up are helicopters, bald eagles and hot air balloons.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">If you want to experience the sensation of checking out hot air balloons in the sky above you, then you should plan on attending this weekend\u2019s Annual Chester County Balloon\u00a0Festival (Ludwig&#8217;s Corner Horse Show, 1326 Pottstown Pike, Glenmoore,<a id=\"OWAac91c729-37fe-2d5e-d3ea-8c0260417ebc\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/ccballoonfest.com\/\"><u>http:\/\/ccballoonfest.com<\/u><\/a>) which runs from now through June 21.<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">It\u2019s always an awe-inspiring sight when a large hot air balloon\u00a0floats untethered through the air.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Watching one balloon\u00a0floating above you is a lot of fun. Watching more than 20 huge, multi-colored balloons filling the airspace over your head counts as a thrilling experience.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Festivities scheduled for all three days are \u201cWine &amp; Beer Garden,\u201d \u201cKids\u2019 Zone,\u201d \u201cBalloon\u00a0Launch\u201d and a \u201cBalloon\u00a0Glow.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">During the glow, balloons inflate at dusk, remain tethered, and light their burners in a synchronized fashion.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Other fun activities at this year\u2019s festival are tethered balloon\u00a0rides, karate demonstrations, craft and food vendors and a children\u2019s area featuring kid-friendly attractions.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">All hot air balloon related events are weather permitting. Hot air balloons cannot fly or even be inflated in excessive wind conditions, rain or thunderstorms. As always, safety for the pilots, passengers and festival goers is always a priority.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">A<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">dmission to the festival is $33.85 for adults and free for children.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Attendees can purchase tickets for hot air balloon\u00a0rides and tethered balloon\u00a0rides for an additional fee.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Kennett Square\u2019s Juneteenth Jubilee (<a id=\"OWAd9dd2c69-7187-9349-0e87-de686b61affa\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.juneteenthkennettsquare.com\/\"><u>www.juneteenthkennettsquare.com<\/u><\/a>) will be held on June 20 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Kennett Library, which is located at 320 East State Street in Kennett Square.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The organizers are inviting families and friends to come together for an day filled with enriching activities that honor our history and culture.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Bring the children to our new Children&#8217;s Freedom Village on the second floor of the library for storytelling by\u00a0Bettinita Harris, acclaimed educator, journalist, artist, and author of six children\u2019s books.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Harris will be reading her book, \u201cYou Can\u2019t Put A Star Under A Rock.\u201d She will also create crafts with the children.\u00a0Children will also enjoy lantern making and children\u2019s yoga.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\n<div id=\"attachment_21439\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21439\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21439\" src=\"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/kennett-malfada2_orig-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21439\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mafalda Thomas-Bouzy<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There will be an amazing performance by\u00a0Mafalda Thomas-Bouzy, African dance stilt walker and drummer.\u00a0 A former Coatesville resident, she uses music and movement to stimulate compassion and care.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The lineup of other performers and participants includes Brother Hakim Tendaji (a congo drummer from the House of Umoja in Philadelphia), \u201c40+ Double Dutch Jumpers\u201d (a troupe from Delaware), 54th Colored Troops (enactors) and DJ Wayne James.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Also featured will be Kennett Heritage (hands-on lantern-making activities), Payton Baily (drummer), Stephen Lyons (singer, guitarist) and \u201cVoices Underground\/Square Roots (lively street games for all ages).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will be more than 25 vendors and exhibitors with food (soul food, sandwiches, and classic Southern desserts), fashion (handmade cultural clothing and fashion accessories), artisanal crafts and self-care products.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Hundreds of dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are looking for their forever homes and the Brandywine Valley SPCA\u2019s Mega Adoption\u00ae\u00a0Event (<a id=\"OWA543809a7-64e5-e79e-6cca-e16cf50d4b12\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.megaadopt.com\/\"><u>www.megaadopt.com<\/u><\/a>) is there to help. Local, regional, and national shelters have joined this Mega\u00a0movement.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-21440\" src=\"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Chesco-times-2026-ad.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" \/>Actually, more than 1,000 wonderful furry companions will be looking for their forever homes this summer \u2013 big dogs, small dogs, senior pets, puppies, cats, and kittens.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Mega Adoption\u00ae\u00a0Event will be held on June 20 and 21 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. both days at the Bob Carpenter Center, which is located at 631 South College Avenue in Newark, Delaware.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Through the society\u2019s 21 local and national Mega Adoption\u00ae\u00a0Events, they have placed more than 22,000 homeless cats and dogs with loving families.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Each one is truly an experience, with hundreds of homeless pets being chosen to join a family over one weekend. Visitors can join the fun and find a new furry companion \u2013 and then welcome them into their home on the spot.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u200bAttending the Mega\u00a0Adoption\u00ae\u00a0Event is a wonderful way to find your perfect family member &#8212; especially with more than 1,000 adoptable animals to choose from.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The adoption process focuses on helping you find the right match for your family. Staff and volunteers will be on-site to help you with your selection, and you will take your pet home the same day you visit.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">All participating partner organizations will use the same adoption process, and the $35 adoption fee applies to all animals at the event.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The adoption includes spaying\/neutering, microchipping and age-appropriate vaccines.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">You\u2019ll just need to bring the few items listed below to complete an adoption &#8212; adoption fee of $35, leash &amp; collar for a dog (also available for purchase) and carrier for puppies, kittens or cats (cardboard cat carriers are also available).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">As part of Historic Philadelphia\u2019s anniversary celebration at Franklin Square (200 Sixth Street, Philadelphia, <a href=\"http:\/\/phillychineselanternfestival.com\/\">phillychineselanternfestival.com<\/a>), the organization is illuminating the park with its annual \u201cPhiladelphia Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\n<div id=\"attachment_21441\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21441\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21441\" src=\"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/ITEM_all_events_bd5b7366-8dcc-4996-bf32-8dc600008afd_-Dragon-760-x-360-Copy-Copy-350x166.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"166\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21441\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chinese Lantern Festival<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Now through August 16, Franklin Square will come alive every night with its Chinese Lantern Festival featuring more than two dozen illuminated lanterns \u2013 all constructed by lantern artisans from China.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">In addition to the gorgeous light installations, visitors can enjoy live cultural stage performances, see the\u00a0choreographed fountain light show in the historic Rendell Family Fountain,\u00a0taste expanded food and drink options including Asian cuisine and American comfort food, drink a toast at the Dragon Beer Garden, and shop for Chinese folk artists\u2019 crafts created on site as well as Festival-themed merchandise.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Guests can also play Philly Mini Golf and ride the Parx Liberty Carousel at a discounted rate.\u00a0A portion of the proceeds from the festival benefits Historic Philadelphia, Inc. for the programming and care of this important public space and its many year-round free events.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Chinese-inspired performances will take place in Franklin Square twice nightly. Performances, which celebrate Chinese performance art and entertainment, are 30-minutes long and are scheduled for 7 and 9 p.m.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Festival hours are 6-11 p.m. Admission is $32 for adults, $29 and $16 for youth.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">In 2026, America turns 250, and Philadelphia is throwing the ultimate yearlong celebration.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">After all, we\u2019ve been first in freedom, first in innovation and first in fun for 250 years.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">52 Weeks of Firsts (<a id=\"OWA69fd47af-39e9-4c5f-9754-e359a8a45bd1\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.visitphilly.com\/52-weeks-of-firsts\"><u>www.visitphilly.com\/52-weeks-of-firsts<\/u><\/a>) is a yearlong, citywide celebration honoring Philadelphia\u2019s legacy of innovation produced by the Philadelphia Historic District 250th Committee.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Not only was Philadelphia the birthplace of the country, but it was also the backdrop for many other marvels.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">To honor these groundbreaking inventions and firsts, the Philadelphia Historic District is holding a year\u2019s worth of free events to celebrate the country\u2019s 250th birthday.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">52 Weeks of Firsts shines a light on different Philly-born Firsts each week through a series of free public events called\u00a0Saturday Firstivals\u00a0\u2014 held every Saturday of 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in more than a dozen neighborhoods.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Firstival:\u00a0Saturday June 20 will present \u201cFirst Annual Reminder Demonstration: 1965\u201d at 11 a.m.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Before Stonewall, there was Philly. In 1965, activists gathered at Independence Hall for the first \u201cAnnual Reminder,\u201d boldly demanding LGBTQ rights where America\u2019s freedoms were first declared. Celebrate the city that stood for liberty &#8212; for everyone.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The event will be held June 20 starting at 11 a.m. at the Philly Pride Visitor Center, which is located at 12th\u00a0and Locust streets in Center City, Philadelphia.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The\u00a0American Swedish Historical Museum\u00a0(1900 Pattison Avenue,\u00a0Philadelphia, 215-389-1776,<a id=\"OWAbd404c7c-82d4-b11f-014f-975b9b4522f1\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Protected by Outlook: http:\/\/www.americanswedish.org\/. Click or tap to follow the link.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.americanswedish.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>www.americanswedish.org<\/u><\/a>) is celebrating\u00a0Midsommarfest\u00a0on June 20.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">In Sweden,\u00a0Christmas is the most important holiday. Midsommar\u00a0is the second most important holiday in the Swedish calendar.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The midsummer party in Sweden involves flowers in your hair, dancing around a pole, singing songs while drinking unsweetened, flavored schnapps and eating a lot of pickled herring.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The holiday was\u00a0originally a pagan festival\u00a0celebrated in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Midsommar was \u201clikely related to ancient fertility practices and ceremonies performed to ensure a successful harvest.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">When Christianity arrived in the region, Midsommar had to adopt a new meaning and one within the context of the new religion. It was then attached to the birthdate of John the Baptist.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The American Swedish Historical Museum\u2019s\u00a0Midsommarfest, which starts at 4 p.m. on Saturday, features live traditional folk music by the Last Chance duo and maypole dancing. During a brief layover in Glen Mills, riders will be able to explore the historic Glen Mills train station as well as the WCRR\u2019 s picnic grove along Chester Creek.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets are Adults, $30; children (ages 2-12), $25; children (under two), free. All dads ride for a special reduced fare \u2013 $5.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The\u00a0Colebrookdale\u00a0Railroad (South Washington Street, Boyertown, <a id=\"OWAb9e7824b-968e-655a-54de-4b967cb6c3cd\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.colebrookdalerailroad.com\/\"><u>www.colebrookdalerailroad.com<\/u><\/a>) is running its \u201cFather\u2019s Day Beef &amp; Beer\u201d on June 20 and 21 at 1 p.m. each day.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The rail line\u2019s Dining and Lounge car will feature a handcrafted roast beef sandwich, creamy coleslaw, oven-roasted potatoes, and one complimentary beer of your choice (21 and older), or soda for those younger than 21.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Children on board will be served chicken fingers with macaroni-and-cheese.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u00c0 la carte beverage service and light fare will be available for purchase throughout the train.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets are $45 for adults, $40 for seniors and $25 for children.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Families can treat dad to a ride on the \u201cYorklyn Special\u201d on the Wilmington &amp; Western Railroad (2201 Newport Gap Pike, Wilmington, Delaware, <a id=\"OWAb052c98d-92db-e862-c828-d16061168bb3\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"http:\/\/www.wwrr.com\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wwrr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>www.wwrr.com<\/u><\/a>),<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">They can take a leisurely round-trip ride up the Red Clay Valley to our Mt. Cuba Picnic Grove, where they can de-train to enjoy a 20-minute layover along the banks of the Red Clay Creek to have a picnic or simply admire the natural surroundings.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Or, if they don\u2019t want to get off the train at Mt. Cuba, they can remain onboard and travel further up the line through the communities of Ashland and Yorklyn.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On the return trip, there will be a brief stop at Mt. The entrance is located on the campus of Nemours Children&#8217;s Health, follow signs for Nemours Estate.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Originally constructed in 1910, Nemours\u00a0Estate is one of Delaware\u2019s grandest buildings and includes the largest formal French garden in North America.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Nemours\u00a0Estate comprises an exquisite, 77-room mansion, the largest formal French gardens in North America, a Chauffeur&#8217;s Garage housing a collection of vintage automobiles, and 200 acres of scenic woodlands, meadows and lawns.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Nemours\u00a0was the estate of Alfred I. duPont.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Alfred named the estate\u00a0Nemours, after the French town that his great-great-grandfather represented in the French Estates General. While looking to the past and his ancestors for inspiration, Alfred also ensured that his new home was thoroughly modern by incorporating the latest technology and many of his own inventions.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Gardens are one of the estate\u2019s prime attractions.\u00a0The 157 jets at the center of the one-acre pool shoot water 12 feet into the air; when they are turned off, the entire &#8220;Long Walk&#8221; is reflected in the pool. Morris acted as a farmer, shipowner, miller, iron master, shop owner, and owner of the mill now known as Mather Mill. Hope Lodge is an excellent example of early Georgian architecture, and it is possible that Edmund Woolley, architect of Independence Hall, offered advice in building. Samuel Morris owned the estate until his death in 1770.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Visitors can participate by watching a short film and then taking a tour. Guided tours of the mansion will depart at 1 and 2:30 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tour admission is\u00a0$8 for adults, $5 for seniors (age 65+) and for youth ages 6-17, and free for children under 5. Hope Lodge is a Blue Star Museum which means that active-duty military personnel, including National Guard and Reserve and their families, are admitted free for regular tours from Memorial Day through Labor Day.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The 2026 season is in full swing at Chanticleer (786 Church Street, Wayne, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chanticleergarden.org\/\">www.chanticleergarden.org<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Chanticleer estate dates from the early 20th-century, when land along the Main Line of the Pennsylvania Railroad was developed for summer homes to escape the heat of Philadelphia.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Adolph Rosengarten, Sr., and his wife Christine chose the Wayne-St. Davids area to build their country retreat. The family&#8217;s pharmaceutical firm would become part of Merck &amp; Company in the 1920s.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Rosengartens hired architect and former classmate Charles L. Borie to design the house, which was completed in 1913. Landscape architect Thomas Sears designed the terraces as extensions of the house.
