{"id":4742,"date":"2012-08-31T05:00:53","date_gmt":"2012-08-31T09:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=4742"},"modified":"2012-08-29T17:10:44","modified_gmt":"2012-08-29T21:10:44","slug":"countys-historical-society-to-host-history-on-tap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=4742","title":{"rendered":"County&#8217;s Historical Society to host &#8216;History on Tap&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><em><strong>Free program will focus on Marshallton&#8217;s role in Battle of Brandywine<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4743\" style=\"width: 220px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?attachment_id=4743\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4743\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4743\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4743 \" style=\"border-width: 2px; border-color: black; border-style: solid; margin: 4px;\" title=\"thumb-19\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/thumb-19.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"171\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4743\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Marshalton Inn will serve as a starting point for a free program of the Chester County Historical Society that highlights the role Marshallton played in the Battle of the Brandywine.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On the eve of the anniversary of the Battle of the Brandywine \u2013 Sept. 11, 1777 &#8211; the Chester County Historical Society is inviting people to Marshallton to learn about the role that village played in the process.<\/p>\n<p>A free \u201cHistory on Tap\u201d event will be held Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Marshalton Inn, 1300 West Strasburg Rd.,\u2028West Chester.<\/p>\n<p>Tom McGuire, a historian and author of numerous books on the American Revolution, will discuss pertinent landmarks and their significance. For example. just down the street from the Marshalton Inn is Centre House, also known as Martin&#8217;s Tavern, and guests will learn about the part the tavern played in the battle.<\/p>\n<p>After the presentation, participants can walk down to Martin&#8217;s Tavern for a guided tour and return to the Four Dog Tavern adjacent to the Marshalton Inn for dinner. The program will also include a brief overview of the Friends of Martin&#8217;s Tavern group by its vice-president, Linda Kaat, an area preservationist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHistory on Tap\u201d offers discussion, Q &amp; A, good conversation, great beer and excellent food in the casual atmosphere of favorite bar or restaurant, according to organizers.
