{"id":5960,"date":"2013-01-24T09:53:11","date_gmt":"2013-01-24T14:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=5960"},"modified":"2013-01-24T09:53:11","modified_gmt":"2013-01-24T14:53:11","slug":"free-art-series-to-focus-on-diverse-masters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=5960","title":{"rendered":"Free art series to focus on diverse masters"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: medium;\"><em><strong>First program will feature film, commentary on ceramicist Karen Karnes<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h1>\n<div>\n<div id=\"attachment_5961\" style=\"width: 175px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?attachment_id=5961\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5961\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5961\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5961 \" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" title=\"Image 2\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Image-23.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"165\" height=\"167\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5961\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Master potter Karen Karnes will be the subject of a free program at Penn State\u2019s Great Valley campus on Feb. 7.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A program designed to celebrate the achievements of gifted contemporary artists working with diverse materials will be presented at Penn State\u2019s Great Valley campus.<\/p>\n<p>The series, hosted by Craig Edelbrock, PSGV\u2019s chancellor,\u00a0 will examine renowned artists and will debut Thursday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. with the film \u201cDon\u2019t Know, We\u2019ll See<em>.<\/em><strong><em>\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0The hour-long film focuses on the life and work of Karen Karnes, a master clay artist, and one of the pioneers of the 20<sup>th<\/sup>-century craft movement.<\/p>\n<p>Following the film, Edelbrock will lead a discussion on Karnes, a potter and ceramic artist born in 1925. Karnes\u2019 80-year career, which began in a Bronx housing community, parallels the blossoming of the studio craft movement in America, the rise of ceramics to a lofty level in the hierarchy of the arts, and the ongoing development of feminism and equality for women.<\/p>\n<p>Karnes\u2019 ties to Pennsylvania and Chester County are significant, having lived and worked in Stroudsburg early in her career and having Mary Caroline Richards of Kimberton\u00a0as a collaborator, business partner, and lifelong friend.<\/p>\n<p>The event is free, but registration is required at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sgps.psu.edu\/Karnes\/\">www.sgps.psu.edu\/Karnes\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div>\n<form action=\"http:\/\/doc2pdf.pdf24.org\/wordpress.php\" method=\"post\" name=\"pdf24Form0\" target=\"pdf24PopWin\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/form>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First program will feature film, commentary on ceramicist Karen Karnes A program designed to celebrate the achievements of gifted contemporary artists working with diverse materials will be presented at Penn State\u2019s Great Valley campus.
