After years as a dedicated bikini wearer, are those days ending?<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\"UTNuKellyColumn\"<\/a>I have traditionally worn a bikini in the summertime.\u00a0 In fact, there are no less than a half dozen packed away in my closet as I type.\u00a0 However, I\u2019m thinking that 2013 may be the Year of the One-Piece.<\/p>\n

I recently celebrated my 30th<\/sup> birthday for the 12th<\/sup> time.\u00a0 You do the math.\u00a0 (Actually, I\u2019m terrible at math so I hope that the equation doesn\u2019t make me 360 years old, or something). Anyway, I am ancient. \u00a0While I continue to work out like it\u2019s my job (well, it sorta IS my job on Tuesdays at the Kennett Y at 10:10am in the big gym\u2026little plug!) time is marching on all over my body.\u00a0 The texture and elasticity of aging skin is not the most attractive look.\u00a0 Throw in experiencing a few pregnancies and it\u2019s PARTY OVER.<\/p>\n

I do believe that \u201cmore mature\u201d women can look GREAT in a two-piece.\u00a0 I do.\u00a0 However, let\u2019s be honest\u2026.we tend to say \u201cwow! \u00a0She looks really good in that bathing suit FOR BEING 40 (ish).\u201d<\/p>\n

Ouch.<\/p>\n

No one wants to hear that.<\/p>\n

\"Kelly\"<\/a>The other thought on my mind for my swimwear selection has to do with the ages of my children.\u00a0 They are both old enough that the majority of their friends are taller than I am.\u00a0 My 15 year old has buddies who are bigger than my husband (who is 6ft tall, by the way).\u00a0 They are MAN CHILDREN and the thought of me lounging by the pool exposing all that skin is mortifying (to all of us).<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the controversial part of my rant\u2026I HATE a tankini.\u00a0 It screams \u201cI GIVE UP!\u201d\u00a0 And, they always look maternity to me.\u00a0 I understand the comfort argument and ease of putting it on and taking it off.\u00a0 Blah, blah, blah.\u00a0 But, when has comfort EVER factored into my ideas about fashion?\u00a0 Ummmmm, NEVER.<\/p>\n

I am a firm believer in a solid color swimsuit. \u00a0(Infinity more flattering, really.)\u00a0 I LOVE pattern\u2026.just not on such a little article of clothing.\u00a0 Reserve the floral pattern, stripes or polka dots for your cover-up.\u00a0 These days, bathing suits are loaded with lots of hidden waist cinchers, bust lifters and booty shapers.\u00a0 Invest in something with \u201call of the above.\u201d\u00a0 You won\u2019t be sorry.<\/p>\n

Lastly, a new suit is the perfect excuse for some new accessories to go along with it!\u00a0 A pretty hat, some sunnies and a new tote are on my wish list!<\/p>\n

(p.s\u2026.I\u2019m not throwing away all of my two-pieces just yet.\u00a0 So, feel free to feel sorry for me if we bump into each other)<\/p>\n
