{"id":8463,"date":"2013-08-24T10:45:18","date_gmt":"2013-08-24T14:45:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=8463"},"modified":"2013-08-24T10:46:24","modified_gmt":"2013-08-24T14:46:24","slug":"kennett-high-to-see-the-light-friday-for-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=8463","title":{"rendered":"Kennett High to see the light Friday &#8211; for free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: medium;\"><b>Ticket prices waived for 1st football game to celebrate new stadium addition<\/b><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8466\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/KennettFootballField-300x238.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8466\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8466 \" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" alt=\"The Kennett Area Consolidated School District is inviting the community to Friday's season-opening football game, which will have no admission free in  celebration of the new stadium lights.\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/KennettFootballField-300x238.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"238\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8466\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Kennett Area Consolidated School District is inviting the community to Friday&#8217;s season-opening football game, which will have no admission free in celebration of the new stadium lights.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Spectators won\u2019t have to pay to watch Kennett\u2019s Blue Demons play their first home football game on Friday. \u00a0The Kennett Consolidated School District (KCSD) is offering free admission to celebrate the 7 p.m. season-opener against Avon Grove \u2013 a contest being played under new stadium lighting, a district news release said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a celebration, and we would like to invite the entire Kennett community to join us,\u201d said Superintendent Barry Tomasetti.<\/p>\n<p>The Demon Lights Committee has raised $225,000 for metal halide lamps that will shine onto the field from 70-foot poles, which will be celebrated during the \u201cWhite Out\u201d game.\u00a0 The first 500 attendees will receive white T-shirts, and the gates will open at 6 p.m., said Jeff Thomas, KHS athletic director. \u00a0\u201cWe chose white because it represents light,\u201d explained Jeff Roland, one of the committee members.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->\u00a0\u201cWe are excited that the lights on the athletic field will benefit the band and the football, lacrosse, field hockey and soccer teams.\u00a0 Each team will play five night games each year, which will allow the children\u2019s parents to attend games as spectators,\u201d said Tomasetti.<\/p>\n<p>School supporters are hoping that the game might attract television lights, too. With enough votes, the contest could \u00a0become NBC10\u2019s first showcased football matchup of the season for a new program called \u201cNBC10 High School Blitz.&#8221; The weekly show, which debuts next Saturday, Aug. 31, will feature a \u201cGame of the Week,\u201d chosen by the viewing public from three choices offered each week.<\/p>\n<p>The winning matchup will receive extended post-game coverage during the network\u2019s news broadcast at 11 p.m. on Fridays as well as during the Saturday night program, which will air at 7 p.m.\u00a0 To vote, visit <a href=\"www.nbc10.com\">www.nbc10.com<\/a> or call 610-624-4111.<\/p>\n<p>Barbara Nash, a Demon Lights Committee member, envisions other benefits from the lights that include the district\u2019s hosting play-off games and band competitions. She predicted that businesses will see increased revenues from patrons stopping in after games, and Kennett Square will develop a greater sense of community from residents\u2019 attending games together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are extremely thankful to the Demon Lights Committee, our community members and business partners for their contributions in making our stadium lights a reality,\u201d said Tomasetti.<\/p>\n<p>Roland and Nash thanked everyone who donated time and money.\u00a0 \u201cPeople gave what they could during the economic recovery &#8211; whether it was $5 or $10,000, it all helped,\u201d the said.\u00a0 They appreciated the community\u2019s support of the carnival, which raised $10,000.
