KENNETT — Whitney Hoffman is seeking to do something that would have been all but unthinkable a decade ago: win election to the township’s Board of Supervisors and make the board entirely Democratic.

Hoffman announced her intention Tuesday to run for the supervisor seat currently held by Robert Hammaker — and a win would dramatically transform a board that until four years ago had been dominated by local Republicans. Current board chair Scudder Stevens was the first Democrat to win election to the board in recent memory in 2011, followed by Richard Leff’s win in 2013 which gave Democrats control of the township’s government.

Hoffman, who ran for State Representative in 2014, brings strong name-recognition to the race and a desire to help build momentum toward some of the new initiatives the township has undertaken in recent years.

“I think overall, the township is moving in a very positive direction, and I think we need to continue that momentum,” Hoffman said. “I think I could bring my expertise to help modernize communications considerably and enhance community interaction; We still have upcoming challenges looking at regional policing, and making sure we have sensible growth while preserving open space.
