Blue Demons no match for Royals, QB Jordan

BANGOR — Under a dreary Saturday afternoon sky the Kennett Blue Demons could overcome neither the onslaught of rain nor the Pius X offense, losing their third game of the young season to the Royals, 42-10
Pius X (3-0) came into the game with a perfect record, outscoring opponents in their first two games 124-12, while Kennett (1-2) entered with a split record after a disappointing 35-13 loss to league rival West Chester East last Friday night.
Kennett’s lackluster defense and ineffective offense seemed to mirror the bleakness of the day, as the Demons were held to just two points throughout the first three quarters of play.
The Royals’ scoring deluge started early and just like the rain, it did not let up. After receiving the opening kickoff, Kennett immediately turned the ball over on downs. The Royals took advantage of the favorable field position and within three minutes posted their first score, Pius X quarterback Tre Jordan hit junior wide receiver Aaron Weller with a four-yard touchdown pass. With the point after attempt missed, Pius X led 6-0.
After a disappointing three and out, Kennett sophomore Ryan Boyle’s impressively accurate punt landed on the Royals’ 11-yard line, placing Pius X deep into their own territory. As Jordan was forced to drop back into his own end zone to find some breathing space, Kennett senior defenseman Thomas Wessels spared no time in putting him on his back to give Kennett a safety, their first points of the game and their only of the first half.
The next score came in the beginning of the second quarter after a Blue Demon’s fumble resulted in a Royal recovery in Kennett territory. Jordan ran the ball to the end zone himself and after a successful two point conversion, the Royals lead by twelve points 14-2, a score that remained until halftime
The Royals smartly kept the ball on the ground and out of the nasty rainy weather; and the rushing offense executed well the entire night, with successful carries from sophmores Jalen Simpson and Sean Stewart and junior Nate Stewart who together posted 105 rushing yards.
The Roylas’ held Kennett scoreless in the third quarter, as the Blue Demons’ offensive struggles continued. Tre Jordan, however, did not suffer any such struggles. In the first series of the second half, Jordan broke free from the line and dashed 35 yards into the end zone to make the score 21-2.
Things did not go well for Kennett after that. The Blue Demons received the kickoff and after being unable to move the chains, decided to punt. Kennett fumbled the punt snap, and the Royals gained possession at the Blue Demons 3 yard line. Sophomore running back Sean Stewart punched in the three yard carry to make the score 28-2 at the end of the third quarter.
If you drafted the junior the Royals’ QB to your high school fantasy team, you were riding high as Tre Jordan went 11-22 for 122 yards and two touchdowns in the air as well as 18 carries for 45 yards and two touchdowns on the ground for Pius X.
If Kennett was to come alive, the fourth quarter was the time to do it. A potential comeback started as junior quarterback Nick Dunleavy marched his team down to the Royal 30 yard line, where he would be sacked on fourth down resulting in a turnover on downs.
The Royals scored twice more in the following five minutes. A Jordan passing touchdown to junior wide receiver Nate Stewart had the Pius X team up 35-2 and an interception from Dunleavy late in the fourth that was run back made the game completely out of reach at 42-2.
Whatever signs of life Kennett showed came at the end of the fourth quarter, when sophomore Frank Perrigo received the Royal kickoff and ran the ball from one end zone to the other with 26 seconds left on the clock. With a successful two point conversion, Kennett was down 42-10, which is where the score stayed for the rest of the game.
Come out and see the Kennett Blue Demons redeem themselves at their homecoming game against Oxford at 7pm at the Kennett Stadium. Weather looks good.
Ryan Boyle did not punt. It was Jake Goudy. And the QB is Nick Dunlevy not Dunleavy.
