Letter: Kennett hiding financial information

To The Editor

Robert Listerman, who is Allan Falcoff’s campaign manager, wants you to believe that the big issue in Kennett Township is an outrageous request for the Township’s financial data that he claims will expose the private information of township employees.  According to Intuit, the software company that created their Quickbooks software, protected information can be easily changed or redacted to protect employees privacy.  Several C.P.A.s we have consulted confirm this as well.  This is not the issue. This red herring is part of a coordinated effort to hide financial information that Chairman Falcoff does not want exposed. The State of Pennsylvania’s Right to Know Special Master ordered the financials released but the Supervisors still refuse to follow the law. Do not be fooled!

Mr. Listerman goes on to blame the Stevens’ campaign for the cost of the coverup.  The Supervisors chose to fight Scudder’s request for public information rather than simply release it as other municipalities do.  The Supervisors chose to use the Township lawyers to fight the request for information every resident has a right to see.  They have spent over $20,000 to date in time and lawyers’ fees to keep the residents from finding out how our tax money is being spent.

Kennett Township’s revenues are not the private piggy bank of the Supervisors. We, as residents, have a right to see how our money is spent.  Unsigned audits by firms and individuals never registered with the State of PA as required by law, illegal healthcare cash reimbursements to the Supervisors and incomplete and contradictory accountings for open space funds — these cry out for scrutiny.

Scudder Stevens intends to end the secrecy, the coverups and the cronyism that have been hallmarks of Chairman Falcoff’s time in office.  He will bring sunshine where none has existed and voice to issues too long ignored by the Supervisors.  That is why I have worked on his campaign for eight months and why I will be voting for Scudder Stevens on November 8th.

Right on the Kennett Township website you can find plenty of financial information:

Scudder has gone through thousands of documents in his right to know requests and when he couldn’t find anything, he decided to manipulate the facts of the situation.

Kennett Township went from elected to professional auditors in 2009 when they advertised for applications. One auditor was chosen out of several who applied. The auditor was interviewed, provided documentation that he was a CPA and was hired. The audits were professionally completed and were signed by the auditor. The audits met State standards. Kennett Township is also periodically audited by the State. The auditor retired early in 2011.

Great, show us the auditor’s credentials or that he even existed. The newspaper did its own investigation and no such person exists. How can you ignore these facts? If the auditor provided documentation/credentials, then why can’t the supervisors or lisa moore find him? Surely, they must have a cancelled check for his services? Until you can PROVE this person exists you have no credibility. Once again, you choose to ignore the facts.
