A checklist to complete before Summer’s end

With the summer more than half over, a few things not to miss

By Kelly Hockenberry, Columnist, The Times

KellyColumn415RevisedOn Friday, the kids will have exactly one month left of summer vacation.

I can’t believe it. Where did the time go?

Actually, truth be told, I am waiting for my summer to BEGIN since I have been taking a full course load of grad classes since the end of May. I have a whopping two weeks off before my fall semester begins (waaaaaah!) To ensure that I squeeze the most goodness out of these waning days, I have started to compile a list of things I want to do:

● Nightscape at Longwood Gardens. I have heard amazing reviews and I’m so anxious to see it for myself! The show runs Wednesday through Saturday until October 31st, so, we have time to get it on the calendar.

Before Summer Ends● Read “Go Set a Watchman” by Harper Lee. “To Kill a Mockingbird” is one of my all time favorites, so I have purposefully tried to block the hype and criticism of this new book so as to formulate an unbiased opinion. I’m on the waiting list at the library…I’m hoping that my turn comes around soon!

● String outdoor lights. We have been outside on our patio for the majority of the summer and it has been fantastic. To elevate the ambiance, I want to hang some twinkling lights in the trees and plant some perennials before the chill of autumn descends upon us.

● Sip a cocktail at Sovana Bistro. In particular, I want to go for their Sangria En Verano (even sounds†fancy! Love that) It is described on their menu as follows: seasonal fruit, lime zest, rhubarb liqueur, rose wine, topped with Moscato di Asti. Cheers! Sounds like heaven on a sultry, summer night.

What is on your agenda for these last four weeks? Please, leave a comment below!

Happy Weekend!

The article is refreshing Kelly, will have to revisit the Sovana Bistro. Waiting for the Nightscape at Longwood to start earlier in the evening.
